cobradWHEEEE HAA, just bought my first big bore!
Bought a stainless Remington Safari custom shop rifle in .458 Win mag off gunbroker today. Timney trigger, McMillan stock, Warne rings and bases, and a Tasco Titan 1.5-6 scope that will get replaced. I have been looking at these for a while, as I really like stainless/synthetic rifles. This one was a good enough deal I bid on it. Save the derogatory Remington comments please. I have another 700 that is in its' third metamorphosis since I bought it in '74, and it has worked flawlessly. My experience with Remmy has been all good and I really like them. This rifle will go to AK with me next spring when I plan to move up there. (save the pf/crf debate too, see above) After familiarizing myself with it, it will probably go to the 'smith for a Sako extractor, and any adjustments deemed necessary for functioning. This is going to be fun!

lawndartA lot of the trigger mechanism on the stainless rifles is nickel plated. They tend to be pretty smooth out of the chute.
Make sure your smith has experience doing the Sako extractor thing on magnums. If'n the angle of installation isn't just so, the brass will beat on your scope.
Consider some after market iron sights from a visibility standpoint. Those fiber optic ones would be good up north in the alder thickets.

cobradI have no experience with Tasco scopes, just assumed that because it's a Tasco... I had thought to use a Nikon Monarch Gold 1.5-6. The guy that built a custom 700 I have put in the Sako extractor and it has worked great. He's now gone, but that rifle is currently with Jim Dubel, of Delta Gun Shop, being rebored and converted to .358 STA. Assuming the work is good, I will consider having him do it. I have already looked at the fiber optic sights and they look like just the ticket.

MJinesYeh, the Tasco Titans are a piece of junk. Let me take yours off your hands to avoid the embarassment you would face at the range if someone saw you with one. There are several of us prepared to engage in the same sort of public service exercise.

cobradOkay, so I've done a little research and learned a bit more about the Tasco Titan. Thank you all for your generous offers to save me the sure ridicule I'm bound to experience when I show up at the range with a .458 topped with a Tasco, but I'm just going to suck it up and bear it. I'll let you know if I manage to shoot this thing off the rifle.
