I am taking my 10.75 to Moz for Buff this August. Have good loads using the 400gr AFrames and need suggestions for solids. What do you guys think? Thanks, Bob

North Fork perhaps? They have two different solids - a cup point and flat point. Both are 380-gr., so I'm not sure how much work would need to be done to get them to the same POI as the A-Frames you're using.

Woodleigh does a 400-gr FMJ solid and this might be easier to develop a load with to match your softs.

What loads do you have worked up for the A-Frame in this cartridge? What kinds of velocities are you getting?

Barnes FNS? They're available in 350 and 400

Pintoguy, I tried H335, 748, 3031 and finally settled on H4895, 62.5grs for 2130fps with the AFrames, RWS and Horneber brass. Have a bunch of Bertram brass, but is really sorry, too soft. Have to use a Lee factory crimp die to get the bullets to hold. No flattened primers and easy extraction. I bumped it up to 63.3grs and got 2185fps, but with slightly sticky extraction. Might go to 62.7grs. Using CCI mag primers for no reason other than that is all I had in LR primers. I will check out the NF site as I would like to use a cupped solid. How well do these normally feed? Thanks, Bob

MileHighShooter, I didn't see the 350gr .423 FNS on the Barnes site. Where did you see them? Thanks, Bob

My mistake I was thinking of another brand. Barnes only has the 400s

But north fork I THINK makes one of the solid bullets in 340

What about the new Hornady solid DG's? Not cupped, but flat point. Any experience on game with these?

I don't know about .423's but so far so good on reports of the Hornady DGX/DGS in various calibers. They sure are a good price point if anything.

When it comes to the NF solid feeding, a lot depends on the allowable OAL your rifle can deal with as well as the basic design of how the rifle feeds. The CIP spec for the 10.75 calls for a very short OAL so it will fit into M98s. Your rifle will have less issues if it can handle 3.6" length or at least longer than a M98. If you are limited to CIP lengths, I'm prety sure that it will require a custom solid. Also, if the rifle depends highly on the nose of the bullet to align the cartridge, you might have problems. You can test this easily by just watching your regular cartridge feed slowly. If the rifle highly depends on the ogive of the bullet to bank off the side of the breech before the rails release, this is where there could be problems. If, by good design of the magazine, rails, and follower, the cartridge appears to be heading right for (or close to) the center of the breech, there should be no problems.

Give the guys a call and see what they say. Be prepared to tell them EXACTLY the barrel dimensions (and not with a Chinese dial caliper). If you don't know, to a high degree of precision (accurate 4th decimal), then send them a slug to measure.

VFR1,

Not to derail your thread, but what load are you using with the A-Frames?

If you can get the North Forks to feed, and hit in the right spot, they are a great choice...

If not then the Woodleigh's would be my pick.
