AR15.com Teppo Jutsu .458 SOCOM Upper Group Buy

This is not my baby, I am just posting it here in case anyone else is looking to get a big bore upper for their AR. I'm in, anyone else?

.45-70 power in an AR15

edited to add:

Uses standard USGI mags, StarLine makes brass, CH4D and Lee make dies, and Cor-Bon makes loaded ammo(300gr bullets).

The use of the Lo-Pro receiver makes it a no-go for lefties unless some sort of aftermarket brass-catcher or deflector is mounted.

George,

The Lo Pro receiver makes the most sense for this application, it has the thickest sidewalls, and is the stiffest. It's also much less expensive than the regular flattop AR receiver, and doesn't require complete disassembly to open up the ejection port. I haven't tried shooting mine left handed, as I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet(loaned it to a Sherriff's department to demo, and it's out to a magazine writer right now). I don't think the ejection will be problematic for lefties. The thickness of the sidewall itself may be enough to deflect the brass.

George,

There is a left hand Lo Pro receiver available, as are left hand bolts. Having one built would be a guinea pig project though, to find out if the left hand bolts will handle the stress. Right now Marty is using Colt bolts because they are the only ones that would handle the stress of the .50 AE uppers. Since the .458's use a smaller case head, normal bolts will probably handle the recoil, and Marty has several people stress testing them right now. If those hold up, then there's probably no reason that the left hand bolts wouldn't. If that were the case, you'd have no problems building left handed uppers in the Lo Pro configuration. That's probably a more elegant solution than slapping your brass against a brass deflector and then slinging it past your face!

I got mine before the group buy, (oh well, mine is of different config anyway from the GB) and uses the Lo-Pro upper. If the muzzle is at 12:00, the brass lands at between 1:00 and 3:00. I don't think that would pose a problem for lefties.
