QuickLOAD start pressures for "fancy-banded" copper and brass bullets?
From the .395 H&H thread for wider exposure, sumbuddy who know?

QuickLOAD start pressure for a solid soft brass bullet is only 1800 psi.
So as not to underestimate, I just use that for all the fancy-banded brass bullets and it seems to work OK.

A solid copper bullet is stickier than brass and rates a much higher start pressure in QuickLOAD, over 6000 psi.
I do not think the fancy-banded copper monometal bullets are that bad, so I am guesstimating a start pressure of 2500 psi for them.
Until proven otherwise.

Gerard Schultz hammers his GSC HV and FN fancy-banded copper bullets down a barrel bore with a wooden dowel. That cannot mean a 6000 psi start pressure!
Any insight on start pressure modeling with fancy-banded bullets would be appreciated,
from sumbuddy who know?

Thanks. 3500 is probably about right for the CEB FBH .395/240gr.
I rationalize thusly:

Start pressure for a solid copper bullet is 6525 psi, according to QuickLOAD, same as for an FMJ solid with hard core.

Looking at band structure and percentage of bearing reduction:
The CEB FBH has a modest 50% reduction, estimated, from measurements.
Still enough to give that zippity-doo-dah feel when seating the bullet with proper neck tension.
The thin/narrow, widely spaced bands of GSC are a much greater reduction of bearing, and bore riding between the bands.
I would have to measure those bands to calculate that greater percentage.
The GSC moly coat rubs off when the bullet is seated, I would ignore the moly there.
Full bearing bullets with moly coating would bring that significantly into play, with the QuickLOAD canned correction.
North Fork copper FP and CP bands and the SP grooves: Measure and calculate/estimate.

OK, for the CEB FBH copper start pressure:
6525 psi x 0.50 = 3262.5 psi
That is what I will use ... for that bullet ... for now. thumb
