For $30 a box at MidwayUsa, it can't be that bad.

For that price, I've even gotten a few boxes for my 458. Of course, you have to shoot it at stuff that has defeated other calibers and see if it'll work. Old dead trees or stumps are good for this. Besides, at that price, it makes good practice ammo. It's just a few pennies more than my own handloads and saves me a bit of time. ...just so everyone interested in the Midway special on: Federal Premium Cape-shok Ammo 458 WM 500gr Speer Grand Slam Solid. I ordered two boxes, and lo and behold what I received is NOT Speer AGS loaded ammo. It is Federal premium ammo, loaded with 500gr Woodleigh bullets. Certainly not a bad combination, but not what I expected to receive. I contacted Midway, thinking there was a mix-up in the shipping. However, this was not the case. What they had in stock was listed as "Federal Premium Cape-Shok Ammunition 458 WM 500 grain Speer Grand Slam Solid Box of 20" Midway seemed rather befuddled as to the ammo they had, and how it was marked. Their contention was/is "That's what WE ordered, and that's what WE got, and that's what you'll get." The folks at Midway were very accomodating, offering to take the ammo back, and credit my account, including shipping. But, they never did acknowledge what was shipped was anything but what was advertised. Go figure... JLS

I was going to buy some a while back and the huy at the Gunstop in Excelsior stopped me saying they was just an expensive bullet and no better than S Woodleigh solid at much less cost. I took his word on it. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery."
