Just wondering if any of you out there " get off" on heavy recoil?
The reason I'm asking is I ran into a buddy whom I let shoot my 416 Rigby last summer, we got to talking, and he inquired if I still had the rifle and how could I possibly enjoy shooting it?
I know personally that I don't find the recoil all that bad, although I learned really quick that shooting it off the bench required a different technique than my other rifles. I think my Marlin 45/70 seems to kick harder than my Rigby.
I have a buddy who has an old W-R 577 NE single shot and as soon as his bullets come we're going to try it out. Maybe this will take recoil into the next threshold. Can't wait to find out!!

Years ago while training in law enforcement for the electronic stun gun we had to submit to being hit with the stun gun several times. Immediately after the pain I experienced a strange adrenelan rush. A few others reported similar experiences.

After firing the 416 Rigby the first few times I experienced a mild sensation of that same rush. Or it could be that the rush was from discovering that I was still standing up and not lying on the ground with a scope shaped crease in my head!

I dont know if I would call it a rush but its a good feeling.
I have to pace myself now but I wouldnt give it up in a heart beat.
This past fall I was shooting my lott off the bench (400gr X's at 2330fps) and after about 25 rds or so I got a bad migrane and slight double vision. I still shoot it off the bench. I might buy a shooting pad to help.

I don't know what it is, I am not a big guy, 6' 180lbs, but I really don't get much affect from recoil. Albeit the worst I have shot was a about 20 rounds in a row from a 470NE, but it really didn't affect me. I guess it's true what they say avout each person handling recoil differently, I shot 470NE easily, but had a hell of a time shooting a 500 Linebaugh Ruger.

I just watched the video of that guy firing the 577 tRex off the bench, and I must admit even though I'm 6'2" and 290 lbs I would have second thoughts about firing that monster.Well, okay, maybe just once!!!
I bought one of those PAST shoulder pads and just let me warn you that if your gun is not solidly in that crease the gun will slide off the pad and whack you in the arm. OUCH is all I can say.
I ended up not using the pad after that happened.

I don't think the recoil causes the rush. I think it's more a feeling of surprise that you are still standing and all in the same piece you started out in. On game, of course, the adrenaline is such that you neither notice the recoil nor the report. At the range, on the other hand, I go out of my way NOT to fire a big boomer from the bench. Once the beast is sighted in, I only fire offhand or from the sticks. No, I don't get off from recoil. To much recoil hurts. I would suspect that if you can put five aimed shots down range from a hunting position, that's all that is really needed. If ol' Mbogo isn't dead by then you will have all the adrenaline you need to be numb to the further pounding you will get either from your rifle or from the bull!

There is something appealing about the bigbores, I imagine it is similar in regards to a good surfer wanting to ride huge breaks.

I shot my Rigby into a Bluestone block (1 sq foot) the other day at 150 odd yards and it smashed it into about 10 pieces. I just thought to myself that this thing is cool. I nowcan not wait to get my .585 (The same as the surfer looking for the next big wave)

Regards PC.
