OK, the discussion about the 470 Capstick and the post about re-barreling a shot out 375 has peaked my interest.
I'm having so much fun playing with my 375 that I'm shooting about 40 rounds a weekend with it. At this rate, I'm thinkng that I could shoot out a barrel in 4-5 years.
What are the larger bore cartridges based on the unlengthened 375 H&H round? I know the 470 Capstick is on the high end but are their any common cartridges in the .40 -.46 etc. sizes?

I believe the 465 H&H is based on the 460 Weatherby cartridge.

Other then that, the only other one I can think of is the 416 Hoffman. I'm sure somebody has done one to use the .423" bullets of the 404.

Yeah, the .465 H&H is on the big Weatherby case.

There is also the .400 Pondoro that uses .408" bullets. I recall some .423" wildcats too, but I am not recalling the names just now. I think one was a Barnes.

The 425 Express was developed by a well known gunwriter, I couldn't swear to it but Cameron Hopkins comes to mind. It was developed on a 300 WM case. Savage used it on their Safari model for a short time.

As George has pointed out, the 416 Rem Mag and the 450 Watts, two other derivitives of those are the 416 Hoffman and the 450 Ackley Magnum.

As a matter of fact I doubt that you will shoot the barrel out in 4or 5 years shooting 40 rounds a week unless you shot them fast and heat the barrel out...shot with some intelligence the big bores last for ions....
