I just bought a few boxes of A-square 400 grain .423" Dead Toughs and Monolithics along with boxes of Wouldleigh's and Barns. It turns out that A-Square's come 25/box and the others are 50/box. If A-Square's were still being made today, I imagine that boxes of 25 would still cost about the same as boxes of 50 Wouldleigh's. My question is: Are a-square 404 bullets so highly regarded that some 404 shooters would like to trade for full boxes of Hornady of Wouldleigh 404 bullets. I am much more interested in quantity of shot/$ rather than bullet performance at this time, as I have no current dangerous game hunting plans. Should I just hold on to the A-sqaure's in case I ever do make Africa, or will I be equally served by Wouldleigh, Hornady, or Barnes? Thanks for any informed advice and opinions. Matt FISH!! The A-Square "Triad" bullets all have the same shape, and supposedly same BC, so same trajectory/POI if you succeed in loading them to same MV for same caliber and weight bullets. They differ in lengths for same weight in same caliber. Shortest: Lion Load soft It is a horribly frangible bullet that might get you killed on DG, varmint grenade use is best. Medium Length: Dead Tough Soft Point Excellent bullet with bonded core and thick jacket. Longest: Monolithic Solid The hemispherical nose shape on the A-Square Monolithic is not the best. Round Nose solids go squirrely easier than FN solids. But if your bolt-action rifle won't feed a better nose shape, then the RN will have to do. In summary, I would not think there is anything highly desirable about the A-Square bullets, so it's not worth paying a premium for them, except to the guy who wants to top off his stash of what is made no more. The Dead Tough is the best design, but Woodleigh Weld Cores and Swift A-Frames will serve as well, or better. ![]() Rip ...

Good shootn’! I bet those RWS bullets are rare as hen’s teeth around these parts. Matt FISH!! Certainly are, I'm saving them but don't know what for, I guess someone will inherit them one day. Occasionally I'll load up and fire one off. At 100m the squib cast loads and the RWS solids loaded around 2100fps hit same POI.
