I just got my Kodiak back from the smith, and it has been re-chambered to 458 RCBS. I sent him a some reloaded ammo 405gr and 500 gr. Both shot very well side by side , but are low. Would you share some of your loading data with me? I have had a hard time finding data on this cartridge. If you don't feel comfortable with others seeing the data please send me a PM. Any other info would also be great. I have 2 crop damage permits that I must use before the end of Sept. If the weather is cool enough I will use one this weekend. Thanks Dave

Dave, the kodiaks take standard marble RAMP sight inserts. When you say it's LOW, how low do you mean? 2 feet at 25 yards or 4" at 50 yards? you can order these inserts from brownells, and get them over night, if you need. to move the POI UP use a LOWER front sight... If this were me, and it was withing 12" at 50, I would order the 2 sizes SHORTER than mine (take it out, caliper the overall height, if ir reads .250, then that's what's it's being sold as) you should have a good deal of adjustment in the rear sight. If you have the rear all the way UP and it's still not there, start with the next lowest sight, at midpoint... if you STILL have to all the way up, next lower sight, etc. remember, you move the rear sight the way you want the bullet to go (up=moved up, left =moved left) and the front sight the opposite. jeffe

DPM, sorry about the delay in response to your post, but i just noticed it last night! About the only load I use in my Pedersoli 458 RCBS is with 400 gr bullets, and a load of 67.0 grs of IMR 4064. this regulates in my rifle perfectly. The speed is right at 2000 fps. It is deadly on 350 lb Russian boar. I also us a 480 gr Woodliegh solid over 64 grs of IMR4064 that regulates as well, but isn't needed in the USA. The 400 gr load will handle anything in North America! If the load you're useing regulates good, the elevation can be taken care of with a lower front sight, or higher rear sight, or combination of the two! You might obtain a back issue of Hanloader Magazine: JULY/AUGUST,1975 No 56. I has a good article on the 458RCBS on page 26, by Ken Waters. Hope any of this helps you! Have fun!
