lawndart needs a Pre-64 M70 in .300 H&H to make a classy .404 Jeffery. I do not expect any Grateful Dead decals on the stock, mind you.

Can't do it Rip,

I have to leave the Pre-64's to people who are intrigued by the mystique. Maybe I'll stumble on one some day that is priced at what it is worth. For the price differential I can get a Blackburn box or a Krieger barrel. I should send a Grateful Dead sticker to my boy in Iraq to put on his DMR rifle. The SF units are a bit more understanding about the need for individual expression by their members.

lawndart,
Good call. Just testing you.

The Pre-64 Springfield-type gas handling makes it inferior to the M70 Classic for my uses too.

I am happy to leave mine as a .375 H&H with traditional ballistics. That is a double whammy of nostalgia for me, even though it has a stainless barrel and the weight of a .270 Featherweight.

If you have a Classic M70 action, here's hoping you find the right box and barrel for .404 Jeffery and a second barrel for a 9.3x70mm Expert Magnum. That would make a great switch barrel.
cheers

Well, before I started this thread, I added a RUM box and follower to an order I FAXed to Winny. I really expected to have them BOed or listed as discontinued. After Lawndart called them I REALLY expected to be out of luck.

They showed up in the mail today!

So anyone interested in the parts might want to give Winchester a try.
