Hi Guys I'm looking to buy front and rear sights for my 375. Where will I be able to find examples in the classic Holland and Holland or Rigby styles. Also if anyone knows about a gunsmith in South Africa who can make them please let me know. Thanks MD

Being that the Rigby sights are just a low billet of metal, it should not be hard for a competent Smith to make from scratch. Bare in mind that the lower the sights (such as the classic H&H & Rigby ones) make it hard to have the stock measurements work for a scope also.

Thanks for the reply. I seem to recall you have a very beautiful 404. Do you mind sharing a picture of it? The rifle is meant to be shot without a scope so I'm not too worried about that bit Cheers MD

Another option would be to buy recknagel REG sights and if you want them low on the action ( I like this) then have the bases machined down and replace the dove tail. By doing this it will be hard to match with a scope but if that is not a concern then it will help with fast aqasition of the sights, a bit like looking down a shotgun.

I bought some Recknagel express sights from New England Gunsmithing service they will export small packages for $50.00 .They arent exactly cheap but they are good

New England Custom Guns (NECG), or Brownells is the place to find what your looking for..Both have a varity of such sights. I would opt for a barrel band front sight and a Island rear with a shallow V or a Talley peep to fit on the rear base of a talley base. Both options have worked great for me and the older I get the more I use the Talley peep..but I still like a shallow V barrel mounted sight. A quarter rib is also an option I like, most custom gun smiths can do that..So. Africa has some good gunsmiths, but I can't recall who they are off hand. NECG Masterpiece sights are the ones I use on any build. Lots of options...hooded, ported hood, ivory bead, flip-up night sight, island size, number of sight blades, etc.

I did as well for a couple of rifles, but l have since started using the NECG Universal (or more correctly the Recknagel Universal-all this stuff is made by them in Germany, NECG just sells it). The Universal sight has just as many options, but is much more easy to replace the inserts (no tapping it out) and they do not need to be hand fitted to the dovetail in the base. More importantly, this sight allows one to easily to fine tune the inserts by screwing in a screw. The insert can be adjusted for elevation by up to 1/16" and then locked into place via a grub screw. No more filing of the insert and rebluing etc. The hoods for these also look better to me than the hoods used on the Masterpiece sight.

I also use the Universal mostly because it makes getting the irons sighted in easier without being a mathamatics instructor. I don't think its as tough as the regular barrel band sight from a bead standpoint, but not sure thats an issue anyway.
