Has anyone had any first hand experience with this round? Does it have the potential for the range that was claimed by the CheyTac group or is it all smoke and mirrors? Serious responses only please, I am about to purchase a Windrunner in .408 for long range target shooting and I want to know if any of you have used this round? Thanx Larry

Larry While I don't have a 408 I do have a 416/505 Gibbs which I beleive is similar to the 408 CheyTac only 416 I have called it 416sw it is improved with 35deg shoulder also the neck is shortened to give a case max length of 76.5mm. With Bertram brass and 400grn Taipan's(Aussie made bullet) the most I can get from it before the cases expand to much is 2810fps. Soon I hope to have some Hornerber brass and hope to get higher vel from it. The orgiinal plan was to get 3000fps with 400grn but even with the Hornerber brass I don't think I will get it. I'm very interested to hear what vel you get when you get your rifle. I have not really looked at it but maybe the Long Range Hunting web site might be a good place to ask. I know some of the guys over there were using 416 Rigby necked down to 338 so they could using Sierra Match Kings for long range hunting, and I think a few of them shot 1000yd shoots. Ahh reminds me of the Match Kings are not a hunting bullet thread. hmmm did a search and can't seem to find it, just keeps bringing the most recent threads
