I see that Browning is chambering the 450 Marlin in its short action version of their lever gun. This is an interesting concept as it can used pointed bullets loaded to higher pressures than the Marlin rifles. Has anyone seen one of these yet? What is maximum acceptable cartidge length? Could this be rechambered to 458 Win Mag?

Mike,

Good to see your post regarding the 450 Marlin in the BLR. Would make for an interesting Lever Gun combo. I sent E-Mail to Browning concerning the adapability of the BLR to 458 Win. Received an "E" in return from there public relations people, with a note that someone from deveopment would get back to me. Nothing yet.

It seems that, if the long action can handle the 300 Win., it ought to stand up to the 458. The amount of metal remaining at the barrel to receiver may be the factor in this type of rifle, load combo. Will only find out, when and if they get back to me.

I think that the BLR is better suited for high pressure cartridges than the Win m71 or m86, so the 450 marlin would be a better choice than a 450 Alaskan.
