Hi. What do you think is the best barrel-twist to stabilizing a 500grs. Hornady RN, or a 405grs.Rem. SP bullets using subsonic velocities in a .458x2" or .458 x1,5"?? ------------------ Arild.

Twist stabilisation in air is independent of velocity. I recommend 1 in 12", but the conventional 1 in 14" will also work.

I agree with you there, Don G. I'll also go for a QUICKER twist. But, I read something strange about the 458 Socom in the "Accurate Rifle". If I remember it right, it says that the 458 Socom chambered AR-15 had a rifle-twist on 1:18"???? And I've also seen 45-70 rifles with a slower twist than a .458" Win. for intance?? My belive was (earlier, though.), that a twist on approx. +/- 1:8 would be more appropriate?? Norbert; Remember we are speaking of subsonic velocities here. ------------------ Arild.
