Hi Per577,
Welcome to the forum also and you could probably get in touch with 460 Weatherby to ask about your future gun. Maybe you guys are neighbours.

Hermann. My explenation is that we Norwegians don't no of anything more powerfull, and there aren't much interest of those big bores, since the biggest animal over here is the moose. So when the norwegians want something "more" than a .375
H&H, which usual is the biggest gun someone would use here, the next natural choice will be the Wby line of cartridges. Why ? Well, for those who will get something "special", we norwegians tend to use our source(es)of info which usual is the "Vpenjournalens ladebok" which list the .460 as the most "powerfull" you can get, and i may be mistaken but the Wby line is considered anyway special for us. And Wby line has been commercial for a long time now.But we norwegians are not so updated, maybe, and as i said, people here spreads rumors from the "vpenjournalens..." which also use old wby ballistics , and this helps the .460 wby to become the magnum of the magnums in norwegians hunting milieus. I was self disapointed when i found out that the previously listed wby ballistics didnt cope with my expectations, and i have to admit that 2600 fps with 500 grains will be the top
or maybe 2650 if i get a good Wby gun.I hope this was helpful !?

Hello Per577.
Welcome to this forum. Good to see that I'm not the only viking that could take some kicks. I'm a proud owner of a 460 Wby (and the scar). Mine is a Brno 602, buildt by R. Hansen. And has offcourse no muzzlebreak.
Where in Norway do you live??

Hey 460 !

I'm living at Gran (Hadeland). You're welcome to try my 460. You can try it in some precision shooting from a bench, with some hot loads. I'll promise you that it'll rattle your brain. Dont ask why it's so fun leaving the shooting -range with a headace every time, but it is.......(maybe I should see a doctor?)
I dont remember my max velocity. When I was testing, I shot my chrony. You should really try one without a muzzlebreak. I think muzzlebreaks is cheating!!

I have been playing with the 460 Wby for a month or so and its a really fine caliber...

I load it down to 2300 with a 500 gr. bullet and it kicks like a 375 as it is operating at about 38,000 to 45,000 PSI (est.) The more I shoot it the better I like it.

My only complaint is that huge action and the overall size of the gun and its weight.

Hello Per, and another welcome from a fellow Norwegian.
This site is the best...Period !!
I have med some of the bigbore fans up north hunting moose, but my recoil tolerance limit is set at the 458 win mag.

Anyway...good luck with your project and keep us informed along the way.

Ray:

Does this mean that the Weatherby has loosened up the shoulder and neck enough to cure the bursitus ? "Sweet Thang" will be jealous, but I'll make a supreme sacrafice and cradle her for you .
