If you're not against having a Pac-Nor barrel, why not let them have a crack at it? Their prices seem to be in line, and many people seem to be very happy with their work.

Joe,
The Pac-Nor route is fairly safe, and they have a good rep. Their turnaround time is 6 to 7 weeks, for a pre-fit and assuming you can finish it yourself.
But, if you can't do it yourself, you have a couple good options
1: call pac-nor, ask them to fit it
2: call doug shilen, as him to fit it,
3: call dave, at IT&D in minerva ohio, and have him do a douglas barrel for you.

that covers pacnor, shilen, and douglas. Dave will be the quickist, and, frankly, I like the results I've seen of his work. Expect to pay between $100 and $250 over barrel cost. BUT, while it's there, have them put iron sights on whatever you get. Remington take off are usually like 30 bucks plus about 30-40 bucks to mount. Even if you never use them.

next option is to call a local range or, in your case, outfitter and/or guide and ask them about local gun smiths. They'll usually have one or two in mind that they respect. They may not like them, but they'll respect them. You are in Wyo, right? There's literelly tons of them.

What are you wanting to do to your rifle?

Good work, fair prices and quick turn around.
I really like the last part! [Smile]

You could also try John Ricks (of Port Angeles Washington?) He's a forum member, and may speak up.

He uses Pac-Nor barrels for the most part.

He does good work.

Sturm Ruger would be my first choice. They did my #1 for me and the price was $135. That included rebluing the entire rifle. The new 30/06 barrel shoots less than one MOA, the chamber is perfect and I could not be more happy.
