Hi, I've been told that in a nearby gunshop, there is a second hand BSA rifle cal. 375 H&H to sell. I suppose it's a "vintage" rifle. What can you say about it? Thanks.

BSA offered a number of actions sizes and a couple different lines of bolt rifles. One with controlled round feed and another with push feed. The earlier ones, with controled round feed, were basically sound rifles and well liked. They had one weak point. the bolt stop is a slot in the bottom of the bolt where the trigger sear catches. On well used ones , like a 458 given to my son in Zambia, this slot becomes worn and you end up with the bolt in your hand when you pull the bolt back fast. It takes a lot of hard use for this to happen. My wife has a light little, short action BSA in 308 and loves it and, although it has seen a lot of use it still works fine. If the price is fair I would certainly consider picking up a BSA in 375. Anyone who claims the 30-06 is ineffective has either not tried one, or is unwittingly commenting on their own marksmanship Phil Shoemaker Alaska Master guide FAA Master pilot NRA Benefactor www.grizzlyskinsofalaska.com

If the BSA is an early controlled round feed version (Royal) and the price is reasonable I would buy it. Very nice rifles, not often encountered, especially in 375. Some have steel bottom metal, some alloy. NRA Life Member, Band of Bubbas Charter Member, PGCA, DRSS. Shoot & hunt with vintage classics.
