I just had a member here ask me about the .300 RUM Winchester Model 70 Super Grade that I had rebarreled to .404 Jeffery. (I originally paid a whopping $700 for the rifle, n.i.b., btw).

I know that Winchester is having birthing pains with the demand for "new" South Carolina Model 70's, but I'll bet they could sell enough of these to make their custom shop happy if they could keep the price equal to that of the fancy CZ.

Low in recoil, big in performance, nice to look at and absoulutely reliable. I like my rifle.

JudgeG ... just counting time 'til I am again finding balm in Gilead chilled out somewhere in the Selous.

Judge, I have a winchester 70 300 rum sporter still in the box, bolt having never been installed. I've contemplated the same conversion as yours. But, with the 300rum's all being gobbled up for conversion, I thought I would keep it as is. I keep finding myself grabbing a winchester 70 300 h+h when I need a 30 cal mag.

I have been grabbing a few of those Win M70 RUMs too. So far I have converted one to a 338 Ultra--358 Ultra--9.3 Ultra-and now 2 500 MDM rifles. Don't have much use for a 300 anything. But they are mighty fine rifles for sure!

Winchester will eventually get back in the big bore business I am sure.

Judge

Sorry, I did not mean to leave you out--That is a fine looking rifle--Mighty fine-best part is that it Says WINCHESTER on it!

I bought one of the stainless ones when CDNN had them for $449 and turned it into a 404 Jeff.
It has a McMillian stock and has been used in Alaska.

Judge - I like yours better but mine is nicer to look at when it is getting rained on.

I would love to see Winchester bring it back. I would build/buy a blue and wood one for Africa.
