and http://www.gebrueder-fruehauf.de/seiten/main_us.html

Traced out these websites after a member here posted on the .500 Jeffery on standard mauser actions. This is one name that I remembered from some old books that I have - my small, amateur contribution. Thanks for the wonderful discussions everyone!

Good hunting!

What an interesting rifle that 500 Jeffery is.

It appears to have a cross bolt through the forend.

Mauser,

I am from India and have lived here most of my life. Have never been to Australia.

Mike 375,

I didn't notice the front crossbolt until you mentioned it. Yes, very interesting. Not being as technically sound as most members here, I won't speculate on the reason for it but would hope that some of the experts here will explain the purpose.

Hello all,
Alf has given a very good explanation of the reason for having that second cross bold in the front. This particularly rifle has a 6 inch long tube soldered over the barrel.
The tube was made out of bar stock and carries that mentioned block on the underside which was milled out as an integrated part. The quarter rip on the upper side is brazed to this tube, before the tube was soldered to the barrel.
Best regards
Robert

Robert,

Thanks for your post. ALF is one of our resident walking encyclopedias.

I presume you're Harry Baelder's son.

Welcome and do keep posting pictures of your masterpieces on AR. I don't think that any of the other members here will find fault with me for saying that we all love seeing beautiful masterpieces here.

Good hunting and keep up the brilliant work!

Thank you for the warm welcome, but to be honest I am not new to that forum but my former login information has been lost. In former times I had a few postings under 577 Robert! By the way, I am not Harrys son I am only the owner of this rifle and the one who forced him, more than ten years ago, to build it. It was Harrys first real big bore but since then he has build a few. So if you have some questions to that rifle ask and you will got an answer.

Mehul,
I am more than happy to answer your questions if I only understand them.
My rifle is the one with the extended magazine box cal. .500 Jeffery, and the nice wood in front of the grey background.
The heavily engraved one with the gold wire inletting is a .404 Jeffery which did not belong to me. But I am not unfamiliar with this .404 Jeffery because it belongs to a friend of me. It was build for his 25 anniversary of his own company nice gift.
Are you referring to the sight on the .404 in picture 1 which is located one the receiver head?
Best regards
Robert
