How much momentum does a .577 TYRANNOSAUR 750 grain bullet at 2700 f/s have...? And how much momentum does a 5 kg stone at 200 f/s have...?

My point here is to know if a bullet can knock over a animal.

I dont think that Momentum is any god number for hunting cartridges. Look at this...

A 5 kg stone that is flying at 100 f/s. Has the same momentum as a 4-Bore. And i think that a 4-Bore will hit harder than a 5 kg stone that i can throw. The foot pounds energy is a much better number. A 5 kg stone at 100 f/s will have a energy of 1000 joule.

I think the TKO (Taylor KNock out Figures are alright) sometimes numbers do not tell the full story though OK. I think my 45/70 kills better and hits harder than my 30/06 out to 100 yards but the paper figures do not really support much difference yet I see it with the game I have shot.

Find out what sectional density is & why it is important (something about penetration), and read Robertson's THE PERFECT SHOT.

If you don't want to buy it, I'll tell you what it says: SD about .330; fps about 2400; caliber big enough for the animal, small enough for you. Not theory, just observation.

You can't even calculate momentum and you want to discuss what it means? Forget all that pseudo-scientific crap that would be over your head even if it were true.

Your example with the stone was a good one, but the stone wasn't going 2400fps. And what was its sectional density?
