I'm bored with snow so I'm starting a test for my 600's. I'm going to work up some loads for my 600JDJ & Overkill using this 800gr 90% meplat cast bullet of mine. Fist I want to see if I can drive the quenched WW cast bullets up to 2200 fps w/o leading issues. I will protect the bullet base with fiber wads. I am going to start with the slowest powders I have (H-50BMG) and work my way down to Varget as the fastest. I already have 1500 fps plinker loads using 4198 & 5744. Once I have data on these WW bullets, I'm going to cast some from straight linotype if the WW's lead too much and expand too much or fragment. I will test for speed of the different powders (full case loads-no air spaces)and also penetration & cavity into wet phone books. This will be interesting to see the differences in recoil, brake efficiencies with the different burn rates, cleanliness of powder burn, extreme spreads, destructiveness of wound cavity, bullet expansion if any (I'm hoping for none)etc. I hoping to find a 1900ish load, no leading, no expansion, & massive wound cavity with acceptable accuracy. Then I'm going hunting to test, probably big pigs again (good test media & tasty) Cool

Try some pure soft lead paper patched bullets in your .600 about .001 over bore size. Try them on pigs. 1900 fps will do just fine. Its Amazing! disgusting but amazing. Remember no brake!-Rob

Thanks Rob----I'm wrestling with the question---do I turn the bullet inside out like I did w/ the Woodleighs or plow through w/ a massively destructive wide meplate in & out the other side???? Roll Eyes

I like the other bullet you showed me - looks like it will fly mighty fast!

Thanks for a good evening. Your wife is lovely and you both made me feel quite welcome in your home.

Have you given the Barnes Banded Solids a try yet? I like the line-up you have there and it might make a good addition to your armamentarium.

Paul- We both enjoyed meeting you and going out for dinner. Hope you found your way home OK. Too bad you had to leave as next day we got the SL-10 running. I loaded up a .50 FP design like the .600 I showed you and it made about 50 of them at a rate of 1 per 45 seconds of machine time. Accuracy was within .0001 for the whole run. Bar feed ran perfectly. I'm going to test the design this weekend at the Ranch. I need to order some barfeed liner parts before I start making .600's.-Rob

No problems getting back to Ceasar's. Sorry I didn't get a chance to see the equipment in action - I'll have to make another trip Cool
Thanks again and looking forward to seeing the results of your projects as well.
