Rob and anyone else qualified......

I have recently been given a 10ft stick of 5/8 brass round stock. What is the actual bullet diameter? Will 5/8 be big enough or should I try to trade for 3/4--it is also available.

Have you developed a profile that is suitable and works well?

Andy

5/8" = .675" homer .625" (thanks, Macifej), so it should be adequate dimensionally (the .600OK uses .620" bullets, if I remember correctly).

5/8" = .6250"

Correct bullet diameter is .620"

Our part number 620FN1800B which has been used on buff in the 600 OK is made from 5/8" bar stock.

All those "8th's" run together ( 5/8" , 7/8" ) sometimes ... I attribute that to chronic sleep deprivation and weak coffee ...

BINGO! How did you know? We're relocating our data centers and it's taking a lot out of me.

I think most folks like the 750 gr FP super penetrator design. It's the easiest to shoot in the 600 OK. You can exceed top T-Rex loads by 150fps easily. It's pretty easy to see 2700fps. I save the 900 gr bullets now for hunting. Everyone who has tried the 750s seems to agree.-Rob

Yup - high velocity, incredible penetration, less recoil. BOOM

Mac- I'm a good friend, not stupid! Cost is just machine time not materials. I would only do this for a fellow .600Ok owner. -Rob

Rob,

Sounds fantastic, but how exactly do I ship a ten foot stick? What lengths should I cut it down to in order to get the most bullets with the least scrap?

My 600 has a 24 inch barrel. What velocities can I expect to achieve?

Most of the data that Mike recorded was developed in 35*F weather in Alaska. I assume I will not be able to use said data in the heat of south Texas and will thus be working up my own loads.

All this talk of 600 OK solids is making me hot! I shot mine (Safarikid's Tembo) just before I left for the Caprivi with 900gr solids at 2,150 and 2,285 fps, and was amazed at how "shootable" it was. I would have taken it with me, but didn't have a 4457 on it yet. Maybe I need some 750s for plinking.

Biebs- Yup the .600Ok even with 900's is very shootable. Puts a BIG BIG GRIN on your face actually! With 750's you can stretch the range as you can achieve .375 H&H velocities but with more than twice the bullet weight and double the bullet diameter. I love the folk lore about .600's not penetrating. With these solids your main worry is over penetration!-Rob

I won't be going for eles anytime soon but will try to see how many pigs I can get lined up and shoot through at once. I plan on digging a blind so I can fire a shot about 15-18 inches off the ground................

Rob, please pm me an address to send material and a quote for machine time.

Thanks

Andy

I'll have to give you a handful of Rob's 750s to try out before we drive to see Ken. Even less recoil and think those I shot last month might still be flying ...

The 900gr are fine, but I can't think of anything that couldn't be made DRT with a 750gr bullet as well.
