Looking at getting a 375 (just because). No plans to head to AK or Africa anytime soon. For some reason I have always felt any true dangerous game rifle should hold at least 3-in the box and one in the pipe. (Yes, I know double rifles only have two). I guess my question is if you would NOT buy a rifle just because of the magazine capacity. Thanks, DG

Well, I think some people knock the Weatherbys chambered in the .378 based cartridges because they only hold 2 down in stock configuration but can hold 3 down with an optional drop box magazine. LWD

Some of the finest guns in the world are single shots. Since you are not intending a DG hunt with it I would buy quality over quantity.

I really can't imagine buying a bolt action rifle that would only hold 2 in the mag. It just doesn't make sense, DG or not. JMHO..... Get a CZ 550 Mag; it holds 6 down and 1 up. ------------------------------- Will Stewart / Once you've been amongst them, there is no such thing as too much gun. --------------------------------------- and, God Bless John Wayne. Will, Are you serious? The CZ holds six down? I was proud of my Wisemann .416 for holding four down one up.

Nope - wouldn't stop me at all. My big WBYs are 2+1 and can't see a legitimate argument against it particularly from the double rifle crowd - of which I am now a member. We all know and loudly proclaim that shot placement is everything - and it is. I guess if three shots from a 416, 460 or even the 600 OK are not enough, I'll put up my hand like a traffic cop, ask the elephant/Cape buffalo/lion/etc. to stop a moment while I reload and have at it again. At the request of Kevin Robertson I had myself timed for 6 shots from my 600 Overkill. From what I recall of my first effort, it was 23 seconds including the reload from a belt slide. With practice I got it to 19 seconds and kept all 6 shots in a 12"x12" square. No Shootaway, of course but not a bad start. Big Five HQ has a custom Steyr that holds 7+1 in 375HH, 416Rem and 458 Lott. After being amongst elephant looking for revenge whilst only carrying a loan rifle with only one round left in it , I now appreciate the comfort a minimum of three down and one up bolt rifle gives. A quiet reloading Double is the exception.

I agree. I want at least three down. Four or even five or six are better. Mike Wilderness is my cathedral, and hunting is my prayer.

My CZ 416 Rem holds 5 down and 1 up. A 375 will hold at least 5 down and I've heard of 6. But like anything else you don't get anything for nothing. The CZ will weigh more than a trimmed down Mod. 70 because of the heavier action. I put a slimmed down Douglas barrel on my 416 Rem to trim some weight. ------------------------------- Will Stewart / Once you've been amongst them, there is no such thing as too much gun. --------------------------------------- and, God Bless John Wayne. My CZ .375 will hold 6 down but it's some finagling to get the last one in and it's not that smooth coming out. But it works. LWD
