I just HAD to do it. Traded my Ruger #1 in 45-70 off for one in 416 Rem Mag. The 45-70 was souped up and the recoil was nasty...just wondering how the 416 might be in that dep't? I'm loading some Speer 350 Mag Tips at about 2400-2500 fps (low) with Rl-15, but the gun is about 2 lbs heavier than the 45-70. I love it...looks like a 12 ga shotgun barrel!
PS..I got a couple hundred cases for it (that's a lot for me) and I don't shoot that much, so I'm not worried about running out anytime soon...

Old 4x4,
I can't believe that you would trade in a great caliber for a small "pop-gun" like that. What were you thinkin, man? You will be lucky at best if that thing will kill a field mouse , let alone something of larger bearing and stature. I can't believe you did'nt go with one of the newer Ruger "Super Wiz Bangs" that is being marked! They at least will shoot a 400 grainer @ 15 or 16 feet per second, and recoil is nothing!

ps. Good choice!(recoil prob. less)
best,
bhtr

Congrats. Now you have an excuse to get a 45/70 in a lever gun!

Provided your 45/70 loads were pretty hot, you won't notice a very big difference in recoil with that 416 load.
