This is kind of sick, which is why I want to do it. I ordered a .375 cut rifled 5R barrel turned to an M-24 sniper rifle contour. It will be here in a week I have a Remington action in 7mm Rem Mag that has been gathering dust at my cousin's house for about ten years. I have a beautiful Dave Kiff reamer in 375 Weatherby. It only has .37" of a (tight) freebore, and a gentle leade. I can get an appropriate precision shooting stock for about $400.00.

The only fly in the ointment is the lack of HPBT match bullets in .375". Maybe someone can turn some precision bullets out of bar stock?

Maybe I'll puss out in the end and have it turned down to a #5 contour and slap it on a Sako, CZ or Winchester.

I just can't help thinking that with GSC or Northfork Flat Points, out to 500 meters, it would be the answer for any man, machine and beast.

Great idea. thumb You can undo it and turn it down to something else if you leave the shank as long as possible for rethreading later. Why not. Sounds like fun.

I have a new .375 Lapua that will be about the same. No practical difference. It has a No.6 contour Dan Lilja stainless fluted 25.75" barrel on a CZ 550 Magnum in an ArmTec synthetic stock.

However, I discovered the "dreaded doughnut" in my brass after necking up .338 Lapua and trying to chamber the dummies in my tight necked chamber, done with a Dave Manson neck and throat reamer that the gunsmith owns, as well as a Dave Kiff .338 Lapua reamer with floating pilot for the .375 barrel.

The throat matches the .375 Weatherby you describe, by my request.

I am waiting for the .375 mandrel for The Forster outside neck turner that I have ordered.

My scope will be a mildot 2.5x-8x Leupold, or a 4X-16X S&B M&P 34mm tubed.

I will use the 8X-16X settings for the high BC bullets, and the 2.5X-4X settings for the low BC bullets. thumb

This should be just the ticket for cleaning the ear wax out of both sides on a terrorist/freedom fighter at 400 meters.

LD,

I would not be suprised if Mike @ NF would turn you some banded VLD BT spitzers for this "Varmit" rifle. Sounds like a neat project. Keep us posted.

My question is why 375 when you have wonderful bullets in 338 the 300 gr smk. The 338 rum would make a great long range gun.

p dog shooter,
I already have a 338 Lapua in the works. I ordered the 375 barrel to do a ballistic work-up for some 375 H&H commercial ammunition loads. Once those are done I'll have the butt of the barrel faced off, cut some new threads and rechamber for 375 Weatherby. After the 375 Weatherby load work-up is done I'll play around and see if I can get the rig to hold 3/4 MOA out to 600 yards.

Paolo,
I would love to use a Zeiss scope. Unfortunately one of those costs more than my pick-up truck and rifle combined.

I've thought about doing something similar, but the .338 Ultramag seems to be the best choice. Put a long barrel on it, and it easily matches the Lapua. And, this is a military caliber. Thus, there are some exotic slugs out there.

I have witnessed the effects of the .378 WM on a distant cariboo many years ago. The 300 soft pounded that stag to earth with an amazing alacrity. Distance was close to 700 yards. Shoulder quartering on... God just to see that again...

A guy I know who's had both the .338 lapua and the RUM said that brass life in the RUM was pretty short (couple of firings) while it lasted forever in the Lapua. He also claimed better accuracy in the Lapua.

Some kind of long heavy banded solid or even the TSX might be just the ticket in your .375 Intercontinental Ballistic Attitude Adjuster.

Warren Page hunted often with the .375 Wtby.

If there are TSX in .375" they might give fine accuracy.

Since my brother got a .338 WM his .300 Wtby gathers dust. What a great upgrade that would be!

When/IF Gerard gets rolling again at GSC I might order some of his "Torpedo Geschossen" without the hole drilled in the nose. That would make the legal department happy and the battlefield "peer competitors" unhappy (though just for a short while Smiler).

For hunting I'll likely use Mike Brady's soft nosed North Forks.
