Mike, I can't help with a gunsmith recommendation, but installing a new recoil pad is basic stuff. If you have a Gander Mountain near you, they would certainly be able to handle that (just leave the stock). Depending upon where the action is rough, you may be able smooth the action yourself somewhat by using a very fine grade abrasive paste. What sort of roughness do you have with that RSM? George

There is a Gander Mountain off of Rt 17 near Middletown (I think it is exit 120) but that is a bit of a haul from Syracuse. To me, visiting there or Cabelas - and I just learned there is on off of 95, exit 58 in CT - is always worth a drive. Sorta the Toys R Us for us. There is a Gander Mountain off Exit 30 on 81 north right out of Syracuse. Go down the ramp, then go straight ahead on the road directly in front of you - only about 1/4th mile ahead.

The last time I talked to a gunsmith at Gander Mountain we were talking about shotguns and he was telling us about how "Those remington870's are always are always tearing gas rings"
