Went to the Vintagers's shoot in Millbjrook New York this morning...Shot fairly good..Was satisfied for my first 16 shots...Going back tomorrow for the finals..
I saw from 500's to a 450/400 to a 8 Bore...Marty came from near Chicago to shoot with the 8bore and at 15 .5 lbs I am glad it is not me carrying it...
You shoot a running buf coming down hill at an angle past you...You have a window of maybe 12 feet to get off 2 shots...I went for the head shot and gave him my first barrel and brained him..I led him around 6 inches for the next shot and damn it hit right where I aimed..So tomorrow no lead...
There is a ele at station 1 standing at 40yds. Second station is a rhino moving right to left at 30yds. Third station is a timed shoooting event 3 targets from 40 to 20yds. How fast can you shoot and reload...I did shoot this part of the event in 20 seconds..not 18 my mistake The next was timed also a lion and you had to shoot 4 shots on him in less then 20 seconds...
Final was the buf.... It was a lot of fun and looking forward to tomorrows event...

Mike Cool

lots of photos tomorrow...evening thumb

Trying to hit!!!

This my buff you can see my shots..It is fun...

simba 4 shots

If you are making 4 good shots in 18 seconds it is no wonder you won. Good show.

That Vintager's shoot appears to be a great tune-up for a big game hunt in Africa. Everything is set up for the doubles, it seems, but we bolt guys hit them good the first time, clap

I'd come down to Idaho in a heartbeat for that!!
All I ever did was the 'running boar' target on the old continent. This sounds like a lot more fun!

Can I use a replacement magazine on that
6-shots-in-18-seconds stage? Like the IPSC guys do? mgun

Gentleman I have to correct my first post I shot 6 shots in 20 seconds ejectors!!!

I did not win and shot with one of the repeat champions Mal McGregor this morning...He shot a 500/450 H&H...Just wanted to meet him and talk but ended up shooting with him...Very fluent with the rifle...Smooth as a babies butt in shooting and motions...Had pleasurable time shooting with a crack shot...
I ended up with a score of 155 and winner shot 202 I believe...
Picked my head off the gun twice and would stop shooting at the bulls and aim where you would on a live animal...But all in all a super experience..Have picks and have to upload them...
Was privledged to hold a real peashooter an 8 bore made in 1887ish..Definately need a gun bearer with that monster...

I got the answer for the double barrel guys, Numrich is selling WWII surplus german "trench magazines" for the std length 98M. It is a 20 round box that replaces the stock floor plate...I can see about fifteen rounds of 375-338 Chatfield-Taylor, 375 Ruger or some other short big bore mag.

Looks like it was a "blast."

Some weird looking animal prints.

I knew it....looks like that one shooter is wearing a wrist cartridge holder.

Mike,

I tried a three round wrist cartridge holder the last couple times to the range. Works a lot faster than a belt.

Now all I need is a double rifle, WITH EJECTORS. Wink

It's not a custom shell holder Mike; just an "Uncle Mikes Sidekick". It worked great in the "stalking" competition where I shot the same course of fire [6 shots] with a single shot .375 in 18 seconds. I was able to stuff the .500/450 rounds into it also. It didn't work so well for my .577. High overall for the course was 212 shot by Jim Berdacki with his W.C. Scott .577. I shot a pair of 210s with my Gibbs .577 ejector and the H&H .500-450 extractor for second place. I think Jim shot a 196 with his second rifle, a .450-400. In the stalking competition, I shot a 186 with a Ruger #1 .375; and a 159 with my Evans .375 ejector double. Both scores were enough to take first. [Scoring is done differently on the stalking range and scores are generally lower.]
Young Sam Saxton took second with a 156 shooting an Evans .280.

All the best, SXS [Mal]

Here are a few more pictures to give you a better idea.

The tents for exhibitors

The Flurry. 400 minis in 3 minutes. Two SxS shotties and a loader. Good shooters got off around 125 plus rounds in 3 min. A good score was in the nineties.

Mark Sands of Ballistic Research shooting his 8 Bore. Incidentally a good place to get loads pressure tested. this is the charging Buffalo. You can see how it drops down the line. You must shoot two aimed shots between the screens

A closer view of Mark's 8 Bore.

David Brown dressed appropiately for his hunt. A 400 3" if I remember.

A 13 inch Brown from the Battenkill River. Just to show you there's more to do than shoot.

Great pictures Mickey. It's nice to see that people dressed appropiately for the occation, like David Brown, instead of wearing the usual baseball caps, "safari shirts" and other modern garb that advertize for various things. Since tradtion is part of the theme of the "Vintagers" and all. It must have been a fun time for everyone. thumb

It is an open shoot. That is anybody could attend and wear whatever they wanted. Shooters were asked to dress appropriately for their event and weapon though.

Most shooters and their wives got into the spirit of the thing. Dave obviously does. Big Grin
One of my friends wives only comes so she can dress up. Smiler

A very good time and Will and his Dennis Lyle outfit would work perfectly for the shottie events. If he doesn't come maybe I culd borrow it? I'd have to have it taken in at the waist and let out at the chest of course. rotflmo

Mickey,

I know it's an open shoot and that the apparel is optional.

I'm just saying that I think it's nice to see people get into the spirit of things on such an occation, rather than walk around like wandering advertisements. Smiler
