I have a Japan made .378 Weatherby Mag in a Mark V. This gun is a tack driver with .270 grain bullets still working on a load for 300 grain bullets. Only one problem with the weatherby's in my opinion is that they are to light. I read people talking about how bad a 458 lott kicks... they should shoot a .378. I would install a mercury break or something in the stock to help reduce recoil and some weight up in the forearm to help balance out the gun and add more weight. Overall the Weatherby gun is well built I don't know a stronger action out there. Good-Luck

| Basically, if you get one that is accurate, keep it and use it as is. The problem is they have very inconsistent/poor quality control and some guns are flat dogs. Personally, their stock design magn ifies the recoil problem and looks like a pimp would want one. The cartridges, however are pretty good IMHO and make a great basis for some of the wildcats discussed avidly on this forum like the 500a2 and the 550mag.-Rob

| Rob, are you referring to made in U.S.A. guns or WBYs in general? I've had most of the larger WBY calibers over the years although not in Wby guns. More or less share you opinion of their stocks. I thought I should try one and have never had this caliber before. Think it will be a blast. HaHa |

| I don't know but I talked to a Weatherby guy who said the quality of the Jap guns was better than the US guns. |

Same rifle that I have only mine is made in Japan. Did you get a chance to shoot it yet? They have a tendency to want to snuggle up to you. My rifle also has no brake. I shot one before I made the decision to buy one. I’d had several opportunities to buy one because the people that got them could not deal with the recoil and were selling cheap. I didn’t want to have the same problem. |

| I had a Weatherby Mark V Alaskan (Japan) that was probably the most accurate big game rifle I've ever shot. It was stocked with a McMillan Classic styled stock.
I have a new Ultralight in 257 Wby Mag that I'm working on, accuracy is good, but I cannot stand that California style stock and am looking to replace it if I can find someone that makes a lightweight classic styled stock to fit it. |

| I have owned so many Weatherby rifles over the years easily 20+...All of them were accurate from a 22-250 to a 378.
I currently have two Accurmarks a 30-378 and a 338-378 they are two of the most accurate rifles I have ever owned. I also have a never fired German 240 which I think is somewhat rare...not many 240's made in Germany. |

| Have two 378 Weatherbys.
Took one to Africa a few years ago. Used 300-grain Trophy Bond Bearclaws.
One wildebeest at less than 40 yards standing perfect broadside was hit right behind the shoulder. Wildebeest just stood there. Could see the entry hole with your unaided eye. Put another bullet right next to the first wound. Again, with the unaided eye could see both entry wounds clearly. Thought about putting in a third. Then the wildebeest fell. (Bob Hagel had a similar experience with an Alaskan moose.)
Put a Texas heart shot into a waterbuck. He ran a little ways.
Every other animal ever shot fell immediately upon being hit.
Really like the 378 Wby, but it does kick like a mule, more than any of my bigger guns.
Do recommend it.
