A ruger rsm lott followed me home the other day Cool . It was just too pretty to stay on the shelf with all the crappy sks's and h&r's it was stabled with.
However as it was purely an impulse buy I didn't do any research before I bought it homer, and see on the forum here there is some concern with ruger's bedding method. I have already stripped it down and the seperate plate recoil thing they have on the go there is unusual to say the least.
BUT is it really a problem? I see a few people have had stock issues, but how many people are shooting them as is with no issues at all?
I can see the mods I will have to do for sure, replace the front sight and lengthen the safety lever somewhat(that sucker is tiny when it is in the bolt lock position nestled into the back of the bolt) and slick up the feeding abit.

As for the bedding issue if it really must be upgraded what is the best method to deal with it, glass bed the existing system or add a couple of recoil plates to the extra rib on the bottom of the stock and than glass bed?

A quality glass bedding should be adequate. And, yes....you have a MUCH better than 50/50 chance of having issues if you don't bed it IMO. Mine cracked in 375 H&H....and I believe the Lott has a bit more kick to it....to say the least.
I'd smooth up the trigger by putting in a Timney...I did and it breaks like glass at about 2.5#...and it's REAL easy to do.

Good luck.

The lott is a real kicker and a real destroyer of stocks...I would glass bed it from one end to the other, cross bolt it, and while your at it have your smith put a 1/4" bolt in the grip behind the tang...better safe than sorry or ruin a good safari for lack of precaution..Factory wood is not the best but it can be made to work...

I would probably opt for a trigger job also..

All factory rifles need tweeking IMO....
