A couple guys wanted to see my Lott by David Christman. It is a CZ550 with LaPour safety and Timney trigger. It has a Shilen barrel, island sight, and NECG front banded sight. The wood was a $500 blank from Roger Vardy in Australia. It turned out much nicer than the blank looked. I hope to spend more time learning to photograph my rifles. Butch

Great rifle, I am glad that 458 Lott is still considered a great cartridge for hunting dangerous. Recently I read too much criticism of him. Oscar. I am Spanish My forum:www.armaslargasdecaza.com

Butch, I have its partner...a Christman on a 1909 Mexican Mauser in the classic 7x57. Looks exactly like Craig Boddington's favorite 7x57 by Todd Ramirez, with 1/4 rib, gold "7x57" on the rib, checkered bolt, hooded and sleeved front sight, great wood....the works. Davis does nice work, eh?

Biebs, He does wonderful work and easy to deal with. It weighs just over 10lbs with scope and full magazine. 14" LOP, 23" #5 contour Shilen. The scope is a Leupold F11 in 2.5power and Talley rings. Butch

Rick, My 16yr old Grandson shoots it real well with the irons. To be honest, it hurts me from the bench. Butch

Butch, I shot the Satterlee in 458 Lott that Mike Rogers used on his safari; I second that emotion. Even after all my competitive shooting, 20 rounds of that from the bench in one day would be too much. I was hurting after five and I am not a small individual or usually bothered by recoil. The pictures are fantastic, thanks for posting. I really like the wrist and cheekpiece. Now if you will excuse me, I have to wipe the drool off my keyboard !

Thanks for the compliments. When you wait a year and put a sum of money in a project it is rewarding to hear good things from your peers. It is enough to fondle it and admire it and of course shoot it, but the icing on the cake is the good word from you guys, my friends. Thanks Butch

Hi Butch, Thanks again for those reamers! God bless Tejas, etc. Mr. Christman Melds those big CZ's into some very wonderful stuff. Back the velocity down to 2,150 fps and it will shoot and work much better. I'll send you a 1,600fps plinking and vermin load. Think wild hog with no bloodshot meat. As we get older the recoil hurts more because we are smarter. Your rifle is the very essence of a PH's "working gun". LD-da

The thing that has always bothered me about the CZ's is why can't the factory turn out something like that? Almost everyone who buys a CZ has to turn around and spend a grand or so to make it into a decent piece. Doesn't CZ know what is being done with their rifles? Or are they just satisfied to build rifles that need a lot of work before they actually become practical for the job they are supposedly designed for? My buddy Ed and I are taking his son in law on his first DG hunt in 2011. I'm in charge of buying him a rifle. I want to get him a good CRF Model 70 in .375, but they are hard to find. I've hunted one for years and for the money, you can't beat it. Just add a SS extractor and a Wolff mag spring and you're ready to fly. The 24" barrel is a bit long for my taste, but unless you're in thick thorn, it's just fine. IIRC, the CZ .375 wears a 25" barrel, entirely too long, unless you're planning on potting Nyassa wildebeest at 300 yards... With a CZ, you have to send it to AHR or someone else for a new trigger and a new stock and some tuning to make it a gun one would willingly take into the field against old blackie. Sounds like CZ is keeping AHR in business, and for good reason. JMHO... BTW, butch, that's a damned nice looking rifle.

I agree CZ is keeping AHR in business. If you go that route its should be a pretty nice rifle. The bbl could be cut back too. For sure- Not as good as butch's, but; IMHO, you could say: you get what you pay for. You might also ask why Winchester does not offer a 22 inch bbl standard. Or hold 5 down in 375H&H. Or machine the action for rings, so you can remove scope and have clean easy loading rifle or easy swap peep with scope. And an M70 in 458 Lott would make more sense than winmag. I have a Model 70 CF in 375 and I like it very much - excellent but not perfect. How about Ruger building a model like the alaskan in 375HH for a handy too hunt gun? CZ also offers a synthetic stock if you wanted that and a lefty model in 375HH. CZ offers more calibers choices than anybody. Really there are a lot of choices today, I am glad the M70 African or safari is back. More choices the better.

Thanks. Wonder how that MOA trigger is? I had a $40.00 trigger job done on my Safari Express. Breaks like a glass rod at about 2 3/4 lbs. The rifle is uncannily accurate. Hope they kept the quality. Funny how the DR guys shoot two but 3+1 ain't good enough for us bolt rifle trash...It is for me.

With my CZ 550 American Safari 458 Lott. I get using IMR4320 2280 fps with a 500gr bullet SP, with a solid I get 2362 using same powder. These are 3 shot average.
