I have an opportunity to buy an original Mauser Type B 10.75 in about 90% shape. All original with perfect bore. What is the reasonable price range for this gun. I like it but would like to have a reasonable idea of its worth. Please, no lectures about "its worth what you will pay". I need info not soap box preaching. Thanks! bewildered

Without details I am shakey ground but my blue book will go up to $3000-3200. Without a pic or exact details that could drop into the 2.2 K range on the low side.

A single square bridge or a double will push the above prices.

An exact cut from the Blue Book is $1300.00 for a 90% Type B. That is from the latest edition of the book, issue #26. Maximum value for a Type B =$2750.00 Of course, there are no 100% rifles around of that style and vintage, so the $2750 mark is excessive. $1300 to $1600 seems more reasonable, if the rifle seems right to you. If it is less than 90% the value drops off quite rapidly.

Not sure which blue book your quoting mine is 22nd (old I know) by Fjestad. Type "B" Mauser is $1300, x 100% for the magnum action.

Problem is the book is a guide and old Colts and cherry Mausers are known holes, you can never actually find this at book price.

Example look at the value of the magnum action alone in lowest percentage grade tough act to find. I doubt your going to find a complete mauser in a mag action for $1000.

The mag box and the action alone are worth almost that amount, as parts.

Gentlemen,
10,75X68 fits in a standard action. I have never seen one built on a magnum action. 10,75X73 "404 Jeffery" been built on magnum actions.

1000-1400$ sounds reasonable Wink

Cheers

The Model B was produced with many variations in stock, sights, scope mounts, etc. The value not only depends on the condition, but on these variations as well. The serial number, indicating when it was made, is also a factor.

There have also been many military actions that were converted to look like factory sporters.

Given all that, you will probably not find a nice original Model B in 10.75x68 for less than $1500, with exceptional pieces easily reaching $3500.

I pay extra for the following: two leaf sight, "full checkering", round bolt knob, NO reinforcing panels on both sides of the action, no set trigger, floorplate release inside trigger guard. I guess "Anglo looking" version is worth more to me. Wink If it looks like a German sporter (side panels, lever release floor plate, "squarish barrels",...) it's worth less to me, they're ugly and I hate them. Frowner

Price? Well, there are more than a dozen variations bewildered but, I would be willing to pay 2000+USD for one with "Anglo features" in original 90% condition. Smiler

I think I said that in the first place. I certainly agree about the styling details, with panels and such I would be a lot less interested.

In the Anglo styling that could add a lot of interesting parts and features, if it has a tang sight for instance those parts alone would add interest and value to me.

The comment about this being a true mag action such as a brevex is spot on, its not its a opened up standard length action.

I have from pretty good authority that the serial numbers below SN 93XXX were know to be self dumpers, and mauser did a subtle fix to correct this after that SN # rannge. For the amount of dollars invloved I would definately verify this. And I doubt you can easily sort this out later, small detail by mauser, but not easily copied by a smith with a lot of $ involved.

If you decide to pass you should pass the details along, I think there are others that would have interest if the price is not outrageous.

Thanks to all for the help. I made a deal to purchase the gun on approval. It is serial #97xxx. The gun has double triggers, lever release floorplate, numbers match, thumb cut out, round barrel, schnable forend [uncheckered], checkered pistol grip, egg shaped cheek piece, hooded front sight, steel grip cap, old red rubber pad, bore is excellent, no rust or pitting anywhere, blue about 95%, no cracks or major wood blemishes, receiver drilled and tapped, standard mauser safety, 200mm rear swivel and front barrel band. I am paying $1200 for the rifle. If I can ever get around to buying a digital camera I'll post pictures. Thanks again to all advisors!! beer

Anytime you want to sell it for a profit then let me know..I will give $1500 for it..Nice caliber and you can purchase brass from Huntingtons....

You can shoot a 350 gr. bullet at 2350 or better anda 400 gr. bullet at 2100 plus a tad...not too shabby...

I own one presently that I built and recently sold a Hoffman in that caliber to Lb 404, they are neat calibers.
