Finnish drama?
30 March 2009, 04:15
shootawayCleaned both rifles and went to the range despite the rain.[URL=

]rain Both rifles kept their point of impacts with loctite on their guard screws. The CZ 458 WM is performing really well with tighter groups and no flyers.I don'tknow what is causing the flyers in the Ruger Lott.I will adjust the sights on both rifles for bullseye for the next session.I will use the file on the CZ sight as it is shooting very high with the first sight.[URL=

Tyler KempWhy aren't your groups in the middle of the target if the POI is consistent?

shootawayTyler,I am trying to get the rifle to settle before I make the final adjustments on the sights and bring it to the middle.Getting it to the center is the easy part once everything has settled.
04 April 2009, 02:29
shootawayWell, maybe not that easy.I filed my sight down too low and set my Ruger sight too much to the right.Next time I am at the range,I'll bring my tools with me.[URL=

]Ruger sight too much to the right( 2 shot group ) I screwed up everything, but got my rifles shooting like they were new! Solved the flyer problem on the Ruger by cleaning the bore to a lesser degree.Got to get my rifles zeroed in and let my shoulder rest before I resume shooting offhand.I got tripped playing ice hockey yesterday and nearly broke my shoulder and pelvis-couldn't sleep on my right side for a couple of days.

shootawayI drove to the hockey arena for the last game of the season, but got there too late.I then thought that I still had some time left to go to the range and use the file on my CZ 300yd sight and make that my 100 yd sight.I had used the red loctite on it and waited a few days before it set and the sight was solid as a rock. Now,I had a beautiful picture to describe all of this by deleted it accidently because of some fatigue and carelessness.I shall describe instead.I fired one shot from the CZ 458WM and it was not on the target.I then took out the file and got to work. The second shot hit the paper target on the very top of the sheet. After three or four triess with the file, the shots placed perfectly beneath one another, with the last shot placing a right next to the bullseye.I used a small straight file for this and found it much better than the vtriangular file. The next time I am at the range,I will shoot a nice group around the bullseye.BTW,I also brought my Ruger Lott with me and shot it after loctiting the rear sight and was also happy with the results. The Ruger needs a round or two to settle. The CZ does not.Go figure! Here are two pictures. The first one shows the CZ sight after the first attempt at filing the v300yd sight. The second pic shows the Ruger Lott with the two foulers and flyers at 100 yds.It was a good day at the range.[URL=

olcripAm I missing something here or what? Why would you need a 300 yd sight on a 458 Lott? I don't believe that I would want to shoot at any creature beyond 150 yds and that would be streching it for the Lott. I am of the ethic that if I can't get any closer than 300 yds for the lott, I have no business shooting. Work a bit harder and get closer to your querry.

Yeah, I think you are...
I think that's why he didn't mind filing it down to a 100 yard sight.
The rifle comes with 100, 200, and 300 flip up leafs, regardless of caliber.
He over-filed the real 100 yard sight but he has the (unnecessary) 300 yard site as a back up.
Reading the Instructions - a sure sign of weakness and uncertainty.

Possibly you've shot the barrel out on that one too. You never know what might happen up there in Canada.......

shootawayHre are some of the A-frame bullets I recovered in the sand pile at 100yds,from the Ruger Lott.It looks like the rifle shoots them well.[URL=

]500gr a-frames I had run out of a-frames and loaded my 500gr Woodleigh RN welcores in both my rifles and got some surprising results. The Ruger continued to shoot to the same point of impact with no difference in accuracy whereas the CZ could not get the shots on the target, with it spraying bullets sometimes two feet apart.I put some a-frames I had left, back in the CZ and accuracy and point of impact returned to normal. The CZ cannot shoot the 500gr Woodleigh weldcore and has the same difficulty with the FMJ's.This may be caused by a 6 land barrel compared to the 8 land Ruger.I was eager to shoot a nice group in the center of the bullseye with the CZ but have to wait until I get more a-frames.

Yes Tyler. I also discovered that I don't want a 6 groove barrel.

With the CZ lott you'll probably need to stick to a-frames and Woodleigh spitzers(6 groove). You need to rebarrel with an 8 groove for total satisfaction.
20 April 2009, 08:19
Tyler KempWhy do extra grooves give you extra satisfaction Shootaway?

RobgunbuilderNo offense Shootaway but your max range offhand is more like 50 yrds( maybe less) than 100yrds. Pretty piss poor shooting actually! Just trying tio help in reality. Lets see 5 fast shots OFFHAND at 50 yrds on a paper plate..-Rob

I've learned a lot from these forums over the years. One of those bits of wisdom is that you have to take anything you see on the Internet with a grain of salt. (and some things with a shot of tequila)
But sit back and remember that if you feel like

you're taking it all too seriously.

Welcome to the board. There is tons of very good information to be gleaned from sifting through these pages, once you have been around, you will learn/see who the "real deal" guys are, and who the clowns are.......if I were you, I wouldnt put alot of faith in learning alot from this thread
