CZ Bolt handle mod. Login/Join

One of the two faults of the CZ rifles that I immediately noticed was how close the bolt handle was to the furniture and how it swept back. (The other fault was the miniscule front sight bead).

On my CZ .416 Rigby, express sight use is almost mandatory for DG as is fast and reliable manipulation of the bolt. I contracted with my gunsmith to mod the bolt handle by straightening it and bending it out from the stock. This way I could palm or grip the bolt knob faster. He did so and re-blued the stub. Some people like the hollow bolt knob filled in but I see no practical purpose in this.

I had access to one of my Spoon Bolt handles, but they are designed to lie flat against the stock and not protrude. The complete opposite of what I needed.

I did not take 'before' photos and the change may not look like much but it is a big improvement on the factory set up.

My bolt handles do not bother me. I killed a warthog, zerba, genbok, and a linkscat. It hasn't interfeared wift my shooting anyway.

Very important to have the right bolt handle. One that is made for fast easy shooting and does not get in the way.Possibly one that is not too long,is straight and slightly extended..IMO,you can't have that if you want it to work with a scope.

I've whined to CZ for years about that bolt handle, to no avail.

If I were you, I'd buy a checkered bolt handle and have the smith just replace it. Had that done a couple times to make the CZ behave!

Sweating hands and the stock CZ handle just don't dance well.

Code 4, looks like a heck of an improvement. I wish CZ would just straighten and fill direct from the factory.

I had Wayne at AHR straighten and fill the bolt on my CZ. 100% better and it has some nice little engravings on it too.

My ph in Namibia had a brno 06 that had the neatest little plastic ball that cliped over the ball of the bolt. It would rotate as you worked the bolt, was faster and more positive than stock.

rifles and you ended up with one. My lott is by

CZ. I have no complants.

Hope to not divert the thread too far from its original content, but I would like to ask Fla3006,what brand of trigger is that in the action in your photo?
Is it better than the Timney replacement?
It resembles the AHR units but I can't tell from the pics.
I do the same bolt mods to my CZ or older Brno ZKK guns as well, including filling that huge hole in the handle.

mel5141,

That trigger was made by Tom Burgess specifically for the cz55o.

I tried to get him to make me a few of them but to no avail.

I am sure Fla can tell you more about it.

Tom was a true Master.....

I had the CZ #1 upgrade done on mine several years ago. 3 pos M70 type safety, straighten and fill bolt, and replace trigger with AHR trigger. Very happy with the result.

Chuck
