Brownells- You do realize that they need to be installed exactly right? One just behind the front action lug and the other just infront of the trigger and behind the mag box! It can be extremely tricky.Rob

Rob
Thanks I lost my catalog and I couldnt find them on the website.
They do look like they will be tricky to install. I dont have anyone to teach me so I got a reasonable priced piece of wood and will learn the hard way! If you have any tips let me have them.
I have a few books and Ive tought myself taxidermy, electronics , and everything else from building my own house to rebuiling a 1950 harley from the ground up. Wish me luck.

Brownell sells a jig to install cross bolts, takes all the worry out of it...you will have to make a slight change in the jig for the rear cross bolt or be very carefull...I just had a smith make a new guide for the rear.

Tonto- The Brownells Jig will work only for the foreward action crossbolt. The rear crossbolt is best drilled on a Milling machine IMHO. This way you can set it up to drill straight through in a very narrow area and you won't ruin your stock. You can have a machinist modify a second Brownells jig for the rear crossbolt as Ray suggests, but this is probably only worth it if you plan on doing many of them. Depending on your action, the rear crossbolt will often be much lower than the front one ( i.e CZ550's). I have also located rear crossbolts just in front of the action tang screw ( ala Heym) and that has worked well although it doesn't look as authentic. Make sure you tape the stock and use proper brad point wood drills and a counterbore or it will splinter and look terrible.-Rob

Rob,
I use the same jig fore and aft, but I had it recut, so it works for both. all you have to do is change the locater bar...Jim Brockman did his and I liked it so I got him to fix mine.
