I had told a gun smith/friend of mine I was looking for a cheap big bore a few weeks ago. Cheap because I don't see using this rifle but maybe on a 1/2 dozen hunts if I'm lucky and I'd rather spend the money on trophy fees than an expensive rifle.

He called me friday and told me he had trade for an Interarms Whitworth Express in 375 H&H and he e-mailed me some photos, he's in another town. The wood looks real nice and I like the looks of the rifle. He's asking $625 for it and said he'd hold it until monday if I wanted to come look at. He said he had another buyer if I don't want it.
Now I love Winchesters and thats what I was holding out for.
But I'm haven't seen a used Win. Classic for $625. I was hoping to find one of the matte finished/synthetic stock models win. offered a few years ago which I planned to put in a classic lt sporter stock I have. But so far I haven't found one and a new Winchester is going for around $925.
So the Interarms is a $300 savings. I guess I'm just not sure about the finish and quality of the interarms as compared to a winchester. What do you think Interarms for $625 or Winchester for $925?

Mark,
I had a Whitworth in 375 H&H several years back and finally got rid of it because it would not reliably eject the spent cases--even after 2 trips to the local gunsmith and a trip to Alexandria. Just something you might want to check before buying.
Good Hunting,

Well, on the other side of the coin, I have two Whitworths and have had no problems with either. FWIW - Dan

You made a good choice. My first big bore was a Whitworth 375. Wish I had it back.

I sold the same Whitworth 375 H&H three times...each time to a new owner that took it to Africa, killed game and came home and bought a 416. The last guy liked it so well he would not sell it back to me.
I would bet there is nothing wrong with it.

MARK65X55. ONCE UPON A TIME I HAD A WHITWORTH 375 AND A 458. I KNOW YOU ARE ON A BUDGET BUT IF YOU ARE GOING TO SCOPE THAT 375 A QUICK DETACH MOUNT IS VERY HANDY. I USED THE LEUPOLD WITH THE LEVERS ON THE BASE. THEY HELD UP NO PROBLEM, AND RETURNED TO ZERO. BEFORE I USED THEM I CALLED THE FACTORY. THEY ADVISED ME THE LEVER MOUNTS WERE STRONGER THAN THE STANDARD PIVOT MOUNTS THEY MAKE. THEY ALSO RECOMMENDED THEIR 4X SHOTGUN SCOPE [HEAVY CROSSHAIR] FOR HARD KICKING GUNS. THIS IS AFTER MY BUDDY HAD TO SEND A 1.5X5 ON A 416 RIGBY BACK TWICE! LET US KNOW HOW THE RIFLE WORKS AND SHOOTS... TWO SCOPES PRE SIGHTED IN IS NOT A BAD IDEA ON ANY RIFLE.
