shootawayI think the barrel is 25 but I am not sure.If I remember correctly Ralph did not want to go with a 24 inch barrel.

fla3006Great choice George, money well spent, that's gonna be a best quality rifle. I'd probably go with a Dakota safety but I'd leave the bolt handle alone.

SevensAre you familiar with the flag style safety? If not and you're familiar with the M70 type, I'd switch it to that since you've already got the muscle memory.
Nice looking action and barrel by the way! Where did you find a Vektor?

shootawayThanks.Ralph finds the bolt handle too short.I sent an email to him and asked him if he recalls a phone conversation we had where we discussed using an original Mauser safety.Ralph sold me the Vektor action last year. The bottom metal is not the original but one made by a freind of his in europe.I noticed that unlike my Satterlee barreled action, there is no barrel recoil lug on this one.I was told a while back, that he might not use one and had some other way of going about it.

BiebsKarl Stumpfe, Namibia PH, has several rifles built on Vektor actions, including his 450 Rigby, and thinks highly of them.

jeffeossochange the safety, keep the bolt

Idaho SharpshooterM70-style safety, otherwise leave it alone.

Interesting how different makers styles differ. Duane Wiebe built my 416 using a Vektor action and thought the bolt handle was too long:
Mine came with a 3 position safety, though I'm not sure if it's original or not since I bought the action second hand.
Beautiful barreled action you have there. Ralf does stunning work.

tiggertateIf I wasn't going to scope it I'd keep the flag safety. Easy enough to change later if desired.
"Experience" is the only class you take where the exam comes before the lesson.

brevexKeep the safety and the bolt. Pure classic Mauser look....unless you're mounting a scope. Then both may need to be modified, depending on how low the mount. Nice looking metal. The Vektor action still available?

shootawayThis is an open sight rifle only.We rounded out the front square bridge.I will request we keep the safety or go with another flag safety.I will let him decide about the bolt handle if it has not already been.

A couple of years ago I thought about using a CZ action for this project.I then decided that this was not what I wanted and asked him about finding another action. He said he had a great action for the project and asked me if I wanted to see it and that he would send it to me.As soon as I saw it I wanted it.i don't know if he has any more.you will have to ask him.

ozhunterThe Flag safety is good without a scope fitted but you must get use to it.
You might want to add a pop up night sight?

shootawayThanks for all the responses they are a great help.I sent an email yesterday about having a gold inlay on the front receiver ring.I got a reply saying it was a good idea and was asked if I wanted scroll engraving and the MG logo and if so where.Any suggestions would be appreciated.Would you go with color case hardening? What type of blueing?

butchlambertIs it going to dent the case mouths like your other rifle?

tankhunterLeave it Exactly the way it is ,its annoying that everything these days has to have a Model 70 safety tacked on to it, every rifle looks like a Model 70

dont ruin it its Excellent the way it is !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ShackI'd vote definitely "yes" on engraving. Besides looking great, it'll help a lot on selling the gun when that time eventually comes around. It was a major attraction in my wanting to buy an expensive custom Magnum Mauser that was talked about here some time ago.
I'll leave it to others for specific names and styles.

I am having second thoughts about the color case hardening.I've never been too crazy about this.I wouldn't mind taking a "down to earth" approach for this project.I would like a nice engraving on the floor plate. It would be like its there but not in everybodys face all the time.

PeglegIt's gona be nice, George!
I like the Model 70 style safety but only in two position on a dangerous game rifle.
The only easy day is yesterday!

Personally, I like the flag safety on an open-sight only big bore. I'm having one made now.
