Hi Guys: I am finishing up working on a hanload for my 375 H&H with Swift AFrames. After about the 30 rounds I was giving my rifle a good cleaning and noticed I had alot of copper build up coming out of my barrel. I use Hoppes #9 Copper Solvent, but every time I let it soak and then use a brass bush it seems to loosen more up. I am going to, wet a patch, run it through and let it soak over night. Can using a brass brush in correct caliber with a copper cleaner hurt your bore? We are talking Brass VS Steel correct? I read an advertisment in more tha a couple of the gun magazines introducing the BEST COPPER SOLVENT to come along... It's in many of the magazines, but I can't find the name... is it Copper Melt or something like that? What product do you guys recomend for removing cooper. Should I stay away from occasionally using a brass brush? I always come back to where the knowledge really is. Regards... Jim P.

Try wipeout foam. I've tried about everything and think it's one of the easiest. You just squirt it in and wait a while.....DJ

Still using a brass brush and a copper solvent??? The solvent will always show blue because one of the elements of brass is copper. You might consider using a slightly undersize nylon brush with a patch on it. If your copper cleaner is very fast acting you will get the copper out with no false indicators of copper left in the bore. Good luck. Packrattusnongratus

PAHunter, glad you've finally got your 375 up and running. Evidently the mounts work.

What packrattusnongratus said! You will for ever get indications of copper if you clean with a brass brush! A nylon brush will help, but even with that,it might get contaminated with enough copper to give you false blue colour after its been used a few times.. Regards, Pete

Hi Guys: Thanks for all the helpfull information. I didn't see that Coppermelt message until after I posted. I think I am going to order some Coppermet and Wipeout. Hi BigSam: Thanks very much for the info and the offer of the North Forks, hold on to them for now, I may take you up on your offer in the future. I was working on a 270 grain Swift Aframe load, as a backup, just switched from IMR 4064, best group I was getting was 1.75 in. @ 100 yds ... to RL-15... shot a .75 inch group with 69 grains... but I still want to try for a littele more velocity. My barrel is only 21 in. with the muzzlebreak. My Leopard load is going to be a 180 grain Nosler, @ 3350 FPS out of my 300 RUM.. Leaving for Zim on May 31.... when are you going back? 475Guy: Again thanks for those Ruger Mounts, but they are for my Ruger 458 Win Mag. I have been playing with this custom 375 H&H Mod 70 SS. trying to get ready for my upcoming hunt. I will have to play with the 458 when I return. Thanks again guys... Regards... Jim P.

Sam, would you mind explaining in detail the surgical tube applicator method you're using?

Wipeout has freed up one whole Saturday night per month for me. I used to spend that time pushing hundreds of patches through bores. No more! Now I squirt the foam in 4 or 5 rifles, surf the net or eat dinner, then come back and push 2-3 patches through each one. Done! Actually, one single rifle always required multiple doses, but all others are clean with one squirt and 3 strokes! Also, cleaning at the range has never been easier. AND, you get to know everyone else at the range when they come up and say, "what the **** is that ****?"

I've used Sweet's 7.62, Barnes CR-10, and now Blue Wonder. Except for wearing out a lot of bore brushes and using up a lot of patches, they all work fine. George

Sorry guys for the dumb comment about the "brass brush". I use the Brownell's Special Line phosphor bronze brushes. Antlers: If you have a Big Bore, you can use this technique. Get a silicone or equally flexable hose that fits tight on your Wipe Out tip and is about 18" long. I plug the breech with a tight fitting paper towel, shake the can and put the hose all the way into the barrel and push the button. Allow the foam to push out the hose while you keep pressing on the button. You will feel the pressure and back out the hose/can as it is pushed. You should first see the foam come out of the gas vents at the rear. When the tube is pressed out, you know that you have a barrel FULL of Wipe Out. This allows you to fill the barrel and not have to wonder if the foam has expanded and stopped the reaward flow. It also allows for a good enough pressure to put the foam all around the inside. I only do this on the .375 and larger. That's pretty much it. I would suspect that you can get the tubing from a harware store, hobby store, or a hospital like we do. All the best, Sam

Jim, We are going back May 2006. We are waiting for one of the guys to get out of law school so we had to push the date back. I"M READY NOW!! I also used RL 15 in my .375 and was getting 2500 fps by chrono. I think the charge was 72.5 gr. and I too was getting 3/4" groups and some times better. The North Forks are here when ever you need them. Your .300 RUM sounds like it HUMMMMMS. Ole' spots will get a lightening bolt effect from that one! All the best on your hunt, stay safe and have a GREAT time. Cheers, Sam
