Just watched "Macomber affair" not bad but book better. What double was Gregory Peck using? The clients "Big gun" was a .375. Too bad they did not use the 505 Gibbs which Hemingway put in the book

I enjoyed Trader Horn. True fact: The female star, Edwina Booth, picked up so many diseases from running around barefoot and in her skimpy costumes that she was ill nearly all the rest of her life and never had much of a movie career after Trader Horn.

I watched Macomber ,Safari[Victor Mature] and Rampage, yesterday mainly because i had nothing else to do, the recurring theme in these Movies seems to be the PH or in Rampage the Trapper getting the hunter or clients woman hmmmm

"SAFARI" I thought was pretty good. Victor Mature seems like a crusty old PH for sure. Not like some dandy's they use. Like Pecks hat in "macomber affair" was pretty bad compared to how Mature wore his hat. Seemed like he had been in the bush a time or two

Years ago I gave to my nephew an old hard bound issue of American Heritage one of whose articles was titled, I believe, "Damn the Crocodiles, full speed ahead." This was a detailed account of the making of the 1931 movie. It is possible the information you seek is there.

Hope this helps.

Yes, I watched "Safari" too. About half way through I realized they had taken a recurring Cowboys and Indians theme and merely transported it to an African setting. Even had the cavalry arriving at the last minute to save the good guys.

I'd take Indians any day over the Mau Mau. Even Apaches

I really liked when he was hip shooting the Sterling SMG at about 300 yards and getting hit's atop the mountain.

I have watched them all and Safari is one of the better ones. Not to many movies start off with a Machete hack job on wife and .303 to the son then burn the house down. By the hired help no less.

I can see why he was so pissed off. Plus he gets Janet Leigh in the end after killing the bad guy
