I have a Searcy in 500 and I am very pleased with it. The rifle fits me quite well and is very accurate. It is a very stout action and the metal and wood are both done very nicely. Best of all, I paid much less than a Heym double would have cost me, and a Heym was my second choice.

I also have a Heym bolt gun in .600 NE. The recoil is not as bad as some would make it out to be, but it is still significant. Perhaps more significant is the weight of the rifle. At about 4 pounds heavier than my Searcy, the Heym would slow me down a bit if I were trying to catch up to a pachyderm quickly.

Mike Weatherby is a well-known collector of fine rifles. He must have a pretty good idea of its value.

According to the Searcy website the prices are as follow:

500 NE PH model $9,500

(boxlock)

500 NE underlever $14,000

600 NE underlever $19,500

600 NE boxlock $24,000

600 NE sidelock $35,000

700 NE boxlock $40,000

700 NE sidelock $50,000

I like the idea of a 600 NE underlever.

Doesn't say anything about any histoical significance, plus it doesn't even have an extra set of Shotgun tubes.

You can take a look for yourself here. http://www.gunsamerica.com/guns/976324402.htm

When I first saw it, almost thought it was a typo, but it's not!

Gadzooks! That's a lot of money; I have to assume that there is some historical significance to that rifle.

Safaripete,

If you can't wait 6 months, I ran across a Purdy 600 NE on gunsamerica last week - only $395K
