Synthetic or Laminated Stock for 600 OK on PH Action? Login/Join

While I fear it will still be awhile before I get my PH action, I have been debating the type of stock that I should get. I am about pure utility. Which stock will be best considering durability and cost (cost of stock and gunsmithing necessary to make it work)?

Any recommendations on stock manufacturers would also be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I have chosen laminate with mine

Most people including myself are chasing weight, trying to build the rifle up to help manage recoil.

I'd recon it would be easier to do with lamiante than with synthetic

Also just email and ask some of the synthetic stock manufactures, they may NOT offer any warranty at all on their stocks if they know it's going to have a rifle in it that recoils over 200sfp

Hope that helps

I too wait for my PH action - and my wait may be longer than yours as I have ordered a stainless steel version for my next 600 Overkill.

I can simply say that mine will have a gray laminate stock to go with the SS action and SS fluted 22" barrel.

Does someone produce a synthetic stock into which the PH will drop? If so, I would venture to say that would be least costly and most durable. I would ask Jeff of MRC if he has worked with anyone on synthetic stocks for the PH.

Good luck,
Paul

as far as I know McMillan says that their syntetic stocks can take all calibers and have no problems no matter what caliber you use in them.. My gunsmith have made multiple 378 and 460 wbys and 500 A Squares using MCM stocks and he is never using a barrel recoil lug when using MCM stocks. When using laminate he will always make a barrel recoil lug on the heavy recoiling calibers..

I dont have a synthetic stock on any of my .600Oks but do have a Mcmillan on my .585 Nyati. The stock has worked out well with no issues with CZ 550 actions so I dont see any issues with the Ph action.-Rob

Thanks for the responses! My PH is SS as well so it could be quite awhile. I like the idea behind the McMillan. I like the look of some laminates but I can see going with the synthetic. But still plenty of time to change my mind and then change it back again.
