Gentlemen

My Impala bullets came today and the look cool JA

I look forward to loading them in my new press.

Unfortunately I leave for Sicily on Tuesday so I will not have the time to get some loads done and test them.

I am further more waiting for some load data from the dealer in Austria whom also have a .500 Jeffery He will use N 140 ( some 110-115gr) and N 160( 130+ gr) for his first tests. The starting pressure of this bullet is 710 bar and not 250 as with jacketed bullets!

Just wanted to share this new exiting product with you fellow big bore aficionados.

Cheers,

Andr

Jeffery,

Looking at both the weight and profile of those bullets, I have to ask if they are designed for smaller game.

Please advise.

I think they are made for culling due to the flat trajectory and little meat damage. Well on the web-site it states that they will create excessive trauma ! So I take that back.

NOT for DG I would say. It might work !

In my 375 I will use then for Euro game like Deer Culling in poland in November and Roe buck, wild boar etc.

For my .500 Jeffery I just want to se how flat I can get it to shoot and then I might shoot some Euro game with it just to use my .500 rifle in Europe to get use to it before taking it to Africa.

But my Bullet for Africa will be 535 grn Woodleigh solid and soft. They will Kill everything on this earth.

This is the link to the Impala site. Make up your own mind about the product I plan to test it and se what it does.

When I was fiddling with various loads for my 480 revovler, I took some Lee 50 caliber REEL bullets and sized them to fit. I was suprised that even at a moderate 1000 fps velocity, the really shredded up the target. Flatpoint bullets would just punch a hole through, but the cone front of the lee bullet would produce radial tears in the target of about 2" diameter.

I don't understand the physics involved.

Since about 1904, it has been known that (a) non-expanding bullets are a bad deal for anything lighter than Buffalo, and (b) pointed solids are a bad deal because their path diverts if they hit bone.

So what's the point of these?

Gringo,

Not everyone has a web site. Doesn't the box have any contact information?

I too have been intrigued by these bullets and want to try them.

I think the theory is:

1. They are being used in a large calibre firearm. Even if they do not expand the calibre size is sufficient

2. The ridge in the design provides a distinct "cutting" edge meaning cleaner and sharper holes with less blood clotting

3. The pointed design is to increase the ballistic coefficient and the light weight and banded or grooved design velocity with a flatter trajectory.

It will be interesting to see how theory and practice match.

I would like to get hold of a few and see how well they kill say a fallow stag.

I received some of them about a year ago..They certainly are accurate bullets and are recommended for dangerous game BTW...

They kill because they have a cutting shoulder and I have a hunch they might tumble and create a buzz saw effect but I do not know that..

I am taking a few of them to Tanzania to shoot into dead Buffalo along with the really pretty Groove bullets and get a feel for them, before I shoot a live bull with them...

The problem I have with them is you cannot combine them with a soft point as they are very light for caliber and shoot at very high velocity and they shoot about 18 inches high in all my guns when sighted in with a Woodleigh, North Fork, or Nosler bullet, and you may not need a soft, so we will see.

I think that the shape is good for BC and not for penetration. I would think that weight is more important for penetration. I do not know if volocity can compensate for weight or how much it would take (solids only). JMO
I will look forward to Rays test results with the buffalo.
I got them so that I could minimize bullet drop compensation when using my .500 Jeffery in 0-200 m situations. We will se how that works out. The 18 inches sounds nice Ray

Alf who is Nobert Hansen?

Alf,

Perhaps Impala Bullets could teach GS Bullets how to ship outside RSA?
