Hello, everyone. I was wondering, if a rifle has an ivory bead or insert in a blade front sight, and you wanted to blacken for shooting paper, what would be used..I am afraid of color going into pores & staining. Perhaps I should just leave it white & shoot a black bull? Thank you!

.22-10-45, I think you answered your question. I certainly would not want to muckle with an ivory bead. Change it out for paper punching, or as you suggested black bull. Welcome to the forum. Good stuff on here. Luck, Stephen

Why not change the insert to one in an identical size but black, usually very easy to change.

Try Birchwood Casey Sight Black. It sprays on and wipes off, leaving no residue. I use it on some of my stainless handguns. George

Why not try something like a tiny piece of black tape? No need to worry about is staining the bead and easily removed/reapplied as desired. NRA Lifer; DSC Lifer; SCI member; DRSS; AR member since November 9 2003 Don't Save the best for last, the smile for later or the "Thanks" for tomorow

If you blacken the front sight, you will raise or lower your point of impact because the eye naturally fuzzes up the top of the sight vs. the bottom of the target. I would not do this at all, not even temporarily. Indy Life is short. Hunt hard.
