Rifle Rest
Somewhere I have seen a rifle shooting rest that a shooter uses standing up for heavy recoiling rifles. Does anyone have plans for such a rest or at least a good picture so I could build one? I would also consider a ready-made rest if it was of good quality. Thanks in advance.M

I made shooting sticks from three bamboo poles, they are put together with vacuum cleaner round belt. one stick is shorter then the other 2 to make v to rest your hand in.
I am going to Tanzenia in August and have been practicing from the sticks for my buffalo.
The recoil from 375 HH is not much shile standing. The 470 is not too bad either.
Don't get your sticks too low to the ground, stand straight up so you can roll with heave recoiling rifles.

Thank you for the input, but the item I'm looking for is almost like the top of a shooting bench but the legs are long so you can stand up and shoot. I can do the top but I want to see how the legs are made to adjust to different shooters heights.

The one we used at my old shooting club was just a tall normal bench, not as wide as most shooting benches...I think it was only about 2 1/2 feet from front to back. We adjusted for different shooters by use of sand bags. We had several sizes and shapes and could accomodate most shooters from around 5'7" to a little over 6'6". May not have been the best, but worked very well.

Dear Mufasa

There are some pictures in Graig Boddingtons books(African Expereince) and on-line articles (Guns+Ammo). It shows a high bench @ where the stomach finishes and ribs start and a hight ajustable foreend rest.

Regards

Mark

Hunting is getting as close as you can, shooting is getting as far away as possible.

Mike,

In short order..

you can make a "ladder" out of PVC, with pipe insulation over it. This will protect the gun and allow you to shoot standing with a rest.

If you want a "true" high bench, you would make an "L" shaped top, but turned 180deg, where the "_" faces the target and the "|" part comes down along your right hand side.

I believe T. Carr has the plans listed in the African hunting forum. Do a search.
