About recoil
I'm reading about the recoil of big Weatherby cartridges and wondered about the recoil of my Ceska 550 Safari Magnum in 458 Lott, in relation to the weight of the rifle (4.2 kg, equivalent to 8.8 pounds of weight). What is your opinion? Sorry for the inconvenience.

Thanks and regards,

Oscar.

You will definitely know that you have pulled the trigger. Offhand and off the sticks, it isn't bad at all but off the bench, it will talk to you in a loud and nasty voice.

So far I have not tested the rifle, so I do not know if the weight of the rifle is right for a cartridge like the 458 Lott. Thanks for the reply.

I had the same rifle and the recoil is a little stiff but it is manageable. The first shot sort of caught me by surprise but you will get used to it.

Wow, thanks for your reply. I with the greatest thing I've shot it with my Ceska the 375 Holland and I felt quite smooth. We'll see the 458 Lott.

Greetings and good hunting,

Oscars.

If your rifle has the set trigger in it, don't use it on the first couple of shots. It will certainly go off before you are ready. And your Welcome.

Ditto the set trigger. Also Oscar, if there is any way please shoot it standing up at first. It will be much easier to adjust to the recoil that starting out sitting down at a bench.

When you reload for it, the felt recoil will be much less if you keep the muzzle velocity around 2200 feet per second. That will still kill dinosaurs with ease and it will let you build up a tolerance to the final recoil of full power loads.

Thanks for your advice, by the way Tiggertate, happy eyes. Now I have a new press, the one you gave me I leave for work lighter than resizing the sheath as the placement of the bullets. I bought a Lyman Crusher II and is solid. I shoot standing not worry, I think the recoil generated by this cartridge is very tough to pull seated.

Thank you very much to both

Oscars.

I understand about the set trigger, what I call "the hair trigger", which is activated by pushing the trigger forward. I can think of using this system with a cartridge so powerful, because I do not see it useful. I see this system useful in hunting down high mountains, with long-range shots where you have to avoid the affect the accuracy when you press the trigger.

I have a .458 lot that weighs 8.6 lb I will be interested to hear your reacton after the first time you shoot it. I would recommend a good pad like the Past recoil shield till you get a little more acoustom to the recoil.

For now I wait to do some shooting with the 458 Lott, I have other outstanding payments and ammunition in Spain is very expensive. But as I succeed or buy factory ammo or reloading I'll keep you informed.

...a 9 ibs rifle in 458 Lott is no problem getting used to.. My 458 Acc Rel (same power or slightly more than 458 Lott) I can shoot small groups from the bench without any issues, rifle weighs 8 ibs. Load is a 500 grs bullet at 2330 fps. But start with some light loads of lets say 1900 - 2000 fps and enjoy...

Thanks, when I start to recharge the 458 Lott, I start with soft loads and go up gradually. What cartridge is that you have?, Could put a photograph of the cartridge?

Thank you,

Oscar

Go with that weight bullet and that speed generates how much energy?, That's an anti-aircraft.
