made some light hollowpoints from Hornady DGXs for smacking pigs, foxes, goats, rabbits etc. :-)

Nice one. 525gn Woodleighs driven at 2500fps by 142gn AR2209 are devastating on pigs. I have a couple of recovered bullets I can show you on Sunday if you come along to the BGR shoot at the SSAA range Mt Petrie Rd Belmont. I would slow them down a lot if you wanted to hunt buffalo, as 2500 fps is too fast for optimum penetration (doesn't really matter on pigs though). You will have fun with that.

From my experience anything above 2300fps hurts a lot!

I have 2 boxes of woodleighs for buff.
I wanted some cheap pills for plinking. I'd read on here the jackets on the Hornadys were abit thin / fragile and the Hornadys were "only" $112 per 50. I wanted them to open like varmint grenades so I made a jig in my milling machine and made them hollowpoints. Will only be used for funs and games, not for the big stuff.

Yes I have tried AR2213SC, it is probably a better choice for the 525gn bullet if you want to keep it at or below Woodleigh's max recommended impact velocity. However most of the loads I tested with AR2213SC were with the 600gn PPSN. I ended up settling on 130gn AR2209 for 2270 fps. I am normally at the Belmont range on the fourth Sunday of each month, so if you are up here then come & join in our competition, or even just come over for a yarn.

I agree, very awesome fun. Recoil isn't too bad if the rifle is heavy enough. 2500fps with the 525gn gives about 102 ft lbs of recoil, in my 11 lb rifle, which is about the same as the 600gn at 2270fps. I tried 600gn up to 2380fps, but I found that to be a bit unpleasant. (and unnecessary anyway). Once you get used to it it is fine, and when hunting you don't even notice the recoil.
I am pretty sure the Woodleighs are cheaper here than Hornady's. Although I haven't priced 505 Hornady's, but the 400gn 416 Hornady's are more expensive than the 410gn 416 Woodleighs.

I'll have to look at those .416 prices. I've been shooting pigs with .400gn frontier projectiles in my .416. They just about explode! Like a big soft lead cricket ball!
I have some barnes and hornadys in .416 but havent shot the woodleighs. Hornady were definately cheaper last time I bought for the .416.

Maybe that is a locational specific pricing issue, but I definitely can get 416 cal 410gn Woodleighs cheaper than 416 cal 400gn Hornadys in Brisbane, although it is not a big difference.
