Great rifle, great caliber. Just need an elephant or cape buffalo to shoot with it now. Wink

The S&B Zenith 1-4X is a 30mm scope that weighs a full pound by itself. It’s a nice piece of glass, but not practical for this project.
Exactly the same can be said for the Swarovski and Zeiss straight tube offerings.

Both my 416 Rigby's wear 30mm glass. In fact, I own and use a bunch of the Euro scopes and think they’re phenomenal but, in the 30 mm versions, they’re also pigs.

Forest that sure is a beauty, but I have a question as I expect you made decisions regarding all aspects of the build. I have seen a tendancy in contempory customs for the pistol grip checkering to have a straight line on the rear edge rather than the prevailing older design where the rear edge usually followed the curve of the grip. Yours is subtely done and the transition from the grip to the flat side of the stock isn't harshly defined as some I have seen. To my eye it may lessen the checkered portion available to the palm of the hand. Would apreciate your comments.

VG, if we are talking about the same thing, it's interesting you would bring it up. At one time, I thought the checkering on the pistol grip would look better if it provided for more coverage (especially over the top of the grip). However, when I tried to cut masking tape to layout the pattern I was imagining, it became clear that the result would push the rear of the checkering way too far back. The side panels would just be too big.

I hope it makes some sense to you because it's difficult for me to describe in words. Suffice to say, I wouldn't change a thing about the checkering on this rifle.

Yeh, a pleasure to see someone who mounts a scope as it should be, nice and low just clear of the open sights. Beautiful rifle, a joy to own and and to carry into the field.
