I am interested in trying some A-square Dead Tough 400gr bullets. Are there any benefits that these projectiles offer over the Woodleigh as far as the limit to expansion on tough game like buffalo? I called A-square to try and place an order today but could not get through to an actual person at ANY extension. If A2 isn't going to produce a product reliably, I am reluctant to work up loads for a bullet I won't know I can order more of. Are they even actually in business? I am really interested in 400-450 gr round nose bonded core heavy jacket bullets that only open to 150-170%. If you know of others besides the Woodleigh, the unbonded Hawk, and the super-soft Kodiaks, let me know. Thanks, ...Catter [ 03-13-2003, 07:30: Message edited by: Wildcatter ]

What about a Swift A Frame? They make a 350 and a 400gr. I saw a 416 400gr. that came out of a big Moose. It looked real good.

Can someone relay their experiences with the Kodiaks? I'm looking for a .416 bullet that will expand readily (read: transfer energy to) smaller NA game. The Hornadays, Noslers, A-frames etc are great but on the smaller stuff they put most of their energy into the dirt behind what you're shooting at. Thanks.

Snowcat, at what velocity are you going to drive those 416 bullets? I have used Hawk bullets in my 450/400 and my 9.3x74R with excellent results on deer and wild pigs. I use 300gr. .408dia. .025jkt at @ 2330fps and 285gr. 9.3 [.366dia] .035jkt at @2350fps. I ger BIG MUSHROOMS and one shot KNOCKDOWNS with both bullets. Give them a try.

Wildcatter, I used some of A square's .416 400 grain on a moose recently. It really didn't hold together all that well for me, seperated from the core etc. after penetrating at least 40 inches on a quartering shot. 2 other shots just punched holes in the ribs .416 in diameter, and went right on through. Have loaded up some Kodiak, Swift and Hornady for the .416 Taylor. The Hornady work well on smaller game, I had incredible upset on a large Blacktail (big hole!). (needed ro try the rifle on something when I first got it)I just ordered a box of Bridger solids in the #1 nose, looking forward to see how they work on the smaller stuff I don't want to blow up. I hope to see how the Swift and Kodiak do on Bear this spring. John
