A good friend is headed to Zim next year for Buff. He has a Blaser model 84 in 375 & 7mm. He has feeding problems both. They both consistantly fail to pickup the next cartridge out of the magazine. Is there a standard "fix" for this? And is the model 93 prone to this same problem?

Thanks for your input.

First, I´m not a blaser fan, and for me, blaser is the evil.
But I´m sorry to say, the R93 is a good rifle. I heard never about any feeding problems.
But I would not use it for Africa, then I mean the action is a clockwork. I would use a rifle with the robust mauser type action. It works better with all the dirt.

IMO, the 93 is a much superior design as compared with the 84.

I have used my 93s in Africa, and to say that they are not good for such use is nonsense. They must be kept clean, of course, but I am fastidious about such things and find them to be no more of a burden than any other rifle.

If I were your friend, I would send my 84 back to Blaser to get the feeding fixed.

I have never used a Blaser 84, but I have used a Blaser R 93 quite a bit. It is my favorite bolt rifle.

I have used it in dusty, [very dusty, in the rack of an ATV for several days riding at the rear, not cleaning it for a test], rain, heavy snow, [wearing it on my back, and crashing a snowgo in deep snow, several times, landing on my back] breaking through the ice, the rifle on the snow go [now a snow no go under water], the Blaser under water for over 7 minutes, I have never had a problem of ANY type.

I shot 50 rounds through one of my Blasers [308] today, many of them in rapid fire.
Perfect performance.

I would contact Blaser about the problem.

I am a bit biased, but after almost 7500 rounds through R93's without a failure, I would bet my life on an R93.

The feeding problem with your 84 almost has to be magazine related, contact Blaser USA and see if they can help. You can find their contact information here:

The R 93 is the fastest slickest "bolt" action rifle I've tried & I've had no feeding problems with mine. I think it' a bit of a mistake to call it a bolt action rifle though even if it looks like one. The bolt really doesn't work just the same as all the other bolt action rifles out there.

The R93 magazine is not prone to feeding failures at all. I have no experience with the 84 model.
