I went to the Federal website today and found that they have apparently dropped Woodleigh bullets from their .416 Rigby ammo offerings. They now list Speer African Grand Slam softs and solids, and Trophy Bonded Bear Claws and Sledgehammers. They used to make ammo with the Woodleigh softs and solids instead of the Speers. Did anyone else notice this change? It really doesn't make a whole lot of difference since none of us can afford to shoot the stuff (best price I've seen is $100/20!), but I'm a bit disappointed. I liked the Woodleighs. What do you guys think? Best, Joe

I think Alliant TechSystems who owns Federal, Speer and the designs for the Trophy Bonded bullets wants to load their own bullets in their ammunition and improve their margins. I get the ATK/Federal press releases, but I don't recall that they have announced dropping the Weldcores. Perhaps they were not selling enough of that ammunition. jim dodd

That stinks, nothing shot better out of my CZ than woodleighs. I can't even find them to handload with so Federal was my only option. Andy

As I understand it they just added the additional choices, did not drop the Woodleighs...

quote:Ray, That's interesting and I hope it's true. I haven't spoken to anyone at Federal, but their website no longer lists the Woodleighs at all. What Jim says makes sense, too... They surely make more money using their own bullets instead of Woodleigh's. Best, Joe
