Well it came in today. Restocking job looks better in person than on picture. The original action matches the barrel. The numbers on underside of action match all the numbers on the bolt. The proof marks are clear as well as load info "Cordite 60 -400 max" . I love seeing W.J.Jeffery LTD. 13 King St. St James. London S.W. " on the barrel. The one fixed sight and the three express sight look nice.

The gun has been reblued...just the slightest over buffing in spots. A few pits on outside of barrel and reciever. The gun is missing the slide for ladder sight; it is also missing the flip over sight hood.

The bore is a little dark..But no pits...strong lands and grooves.

The one downside is mag box trigger guard looks like modern replacement. [Confused] [Frown] [Frown]

Made up some dummy loads to check feed and funtion.
they did not work worth a damn. I was sick.

Just for fun I traded the Mag spring out of my 416 rigby (CZ).

The thing works every time now. I Have cycled A full action about 40 times it feeds perfect.

I guess I did OK...

I will shoot it Sunday.

Alf, How much do you think the original Jeffery weighs? Have you shot heavy charges in it like the RWS loading for Jeffery? I have tried to have a 404 built for me 4 times. Each time I give full instructions as to barrel contour and length as well as providing the wood. I require a 8 lb. rifle. Each time the rifle is made and the weight comes in at close to 10 lbs. without scope. Is an 8 lb. Jeffery unreasonable? My first 404 Jeffery by Jeffery weighed 7.75 lbs and was as yours, a low comb stocked rifle. A scope was not in its future. I sold it and have been on a hunt for a light weight rifle ever since! When rifle makers make a rifle for me it should be the way I want it not the way they want. [Mad] [Confused]
